Established in 1992, the program is supported by the efforts of 31 groups and several individuals. ,< The volunteer groups and individuals represent a cross - section of the community, including service organizations, employee groups, schools, scouts, churches, and neighborhood groups. The organizations are recognized by signs at their adopted facilities. Each year volunteers collect about 5,000 pounds of trash. With the help of this program, our parks, trails, and streets are cleaner and more inviting. The City thanks the following individuals and groups for their public service and commitment to this program: Account Receivable Services Evergreen Park School BAPS Friends of Riverdale Park Boy Scout Troop #401 Garden City Elementary Boy Scout Troop #454 Girl Scout Troop #2191 Brookdale Chrysler Plymouth Girl Scout Troop #2411 Brooklyn Center Police Explorers Home Away — Earle Brown School Brooklyn Center High School Age Program Brooklyn Center Lions Club Kids On The Move Daycare Brooklyn Center Lioness Club Living Word Center A special thanks to Brooklyn Center Park and Moms Club of Brooklyn Center Cub Foods Recreation Commission Odyssey Charter School of Brooklyn Center Brooklyn Center Rotary Club Palmer Lake Elementary Brooklyn United Methodist Church Rise Creative Partnerships for their generous Riverwood Neighborhood g donation of flowers Crowne Plaza Mpls. The Great Shingle Creek Watershed Clean Up k April 19 —April 26, 2008 ROTARY CLUB Brooklyn Center and four other cities that comprise the Shingle Creek Water- shed will celebrate Earth Day with the 7 annual Great Shingle Creek Water- shed Clean Up. Beginning Saturday, April 19 through Saturday, April 26, hun- dreds of volunteers from Plymouth to the Mississippi River will line the banks 00 of Shingle Creek, removing everything from pop cans to abandoned vehicles. 4 Cigarette butts, candy wrappers, and empty pop cans that are tossed or blown into the street often end up littering the banks of our streams. Rain and melting snow transports litter through the storm sewer system and into SHINGLECREEN TRAILWAY car. or x.00...xcr.rn streams and ponds. The large area that funnels water into a stream is called a watershed. As water travels through the watershed it picks up debris and pollutants and carries them to the stream. If the land is polluted, rivers will be too. Your help is needed to keep the watershed clean. In 2007, more than 300 volunteers worked approximately 700 hours in Brook- lyn Center cleaning the banks of Shingle Creek as well as City parks and road- ways. Volunteers collected over 100 bags of debris. In 2008 many of the 31 groups affiliated with the Brooklyn Center Adopt -A- Park /Trail /Street Program will focus their cleanup efforts on their assigned sites during the week. Groups and individuals not already connected with a park, trail, or street will be assigned to an area of Shingle Creek, nearby park, open space, or parkway to pick up trash and debris. If you are interested in participating either as a group or as an individual, call Jenny Whiting at (763) 569 -3380. On the day of the event, trash bags and cotton gloves will be provided at the Community Center, 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway. The official clean up will take place from 9 a.m. to Noon on Satur- day, April 19, to commemorate Earth Day 2008.
