Over the last several months the Opportunity Site Study Area
Task Force has met to develop a comprehensive guide plan
for the creation of a Town Center. The public Open House
will provide another opportunity for the public and business ,
owners to comment on the redevelopment master plan before
the Economic Development Authority considers it. The City's
professional planning firm, Damon Farber Associates, will
present the plans in an interactive format where citizens can
come and go at their leisure. This format will allow more
interaction between the public and the design team and City
staff. Further information can be obtained from Community

City Council recognizes 2005 recipients of
Random Acts of Kindness Random Acts of Kindness
At its meeting of October 24, 2005, the Brooklyn Center City Mayor Kragness presented certificates of recognition
Council recognized persons who had been nominated to receive to those nominees who attended the meeting
a Random Acts of Kindness award during 2005. This year 11
people were nominated to receive recognition for their Random Boyce Bible
Acts of Kindness.
Random Acts submitted included paying for a stranger's lunch,
helping people with whatever is needed to put a smile on their
face, voluntarily helping neighbors clean up trees and branches .

The City of Brooklyn Center is very fortunate to have many dedicated citizens willing to serve on commissions. These
commissions provide an opportunity for citizens to assist the City Council in reviewing many important issues facing the City of
Brooklyn Center. There are four City advisory commissions, as well as the court- appointed Charter Commission and three multi -
city commissions. The City Council would like to publicly thank these commissioners for their dedicated service in 2005.

serve on Planning Commission Spotlight on Parks
The Brooklyn Center Planning Commission is seeking one Eugene Hagel Arboretum
member to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of one of
its members. The remaining term expires December 31, 2007, y
at which time the Commissioner is eligible for reappointment to '
another two -year term. To qualify for membership, you must be
a Brooklyn Center resident while serving on the Commission, :z ,
shall have been a resident for at least one year prior to the y `
appointment, and represent a broad range of interest in the
planning function. The general purpose of the Commission is to
act in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues related
to planning, zoning, sign, and subdivision matters. The
Planning Commission is comprised of seven members and
meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in
the City Hall Council Chambers. Interested persons can obtain

The Brooklyn Center Gymnastics Program has been developed using a skill progression of classes designed to
provide participants a safe, comfortable advancement in gymnastics. Most students participate in a class two to t
three times before progressing to the next level. Through years of experience, we have found our children's
classes including gymnastics are conducted more smoothly when not being observed by parents. Children, as
well as adults, need to spend time interacting with their peers in a recreation setting. Parents are welcome to
attend the last 15 minutes of the last day of class for a short demonstration. Schedules will be mailed. If you

The adaptive recreation program is a cooperative effort of the cities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley,
Maple Grove, New Hope, Plymouth, Robbinsdale & REACH. For persons not living in one of the cities listed above, you are
considered a "non- resident" and need to add $5 to registration fee. Participants must pre - register. REACH is an agency serving
individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in the West & Northwest Hennepin areas. Services include
information, referral, advocacy, and counseling. Programs include social/recreation clubs and education programs. An integration
specialist is on staff to assist parents, professionals and individuals who are interested in participating in "non- adapted" parks and
recreation programs.

multitude of fun and educational opportunities! Our trips allow you to eat at wonderful restaurants and experience a host of

included in birthday party package. Minimum height to go down water slide is 52 ". Children less than 52" must
pass a swim test to use the slide or be accompanied by an adult. You may bring commercially prepared or store
bought cake, ice cream, pre - packaged beverages (no red, orange or grape dye) and/or order pizza from
restaurants. No other food items, including crock pots, salads, sandwiches, or homemade items permitted. Swimsuits required in
swimming pool.
