The adapted recreation program is a cooperative effort of the cities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal,
Golden Valley, Maple Grove, New Hope, Plymouth, Robbinsdale and West Hennepin Community Center. Participants
must pre- register. Residents may register beginning August 31, non - residents beginning September 5 on a space
availability basis. West Hennepin Community Center is an agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities
and their families in the West and Northwest Hennepin areas. Services include information and referral, advocacy, and
counseling. Programs include social /recreation clubs and education programs. An integration specialist is on staff to
assist parents, professionals and individuals who are interested in participating in "non- adapted" parks and recreation

Suburban Basketball League - This basketball league for persons 18 years and older has an emphasis on fun,
socializing, and skill development. Participant's skill level will be assessed and team/league placement will be made

season is Dec. 5 -15 and the regular season Jan. 9 -Mar. 16 from 6:30 -8 p.m. The fee is $20. Meets at Sunny Hollow

Halloween Party - Oct. 30 - 2 p.m. Calling all ghosts and goblins in sixth grade and younger! Join us at the community r
center as we celebrate the 10th annual Halloween Party. Children will play ghoulish games, win prizes and
enjoy special Halloween treats. After playing the games, children will also have the opportunity to swim and
use the water slide. Cost includes a Halloween bag, one chance at each game booth, treats, prizes, swimming,

the community center desk on day of party. (Participants must meet a minimum height requirement of 52" in

Registration Information
Registration for fall classes and programs begins Sat., Sept. 10 at the Brooklyn Center Community Center
(except where noted in class descriptions). NEW - Numbers will be distributed one half hour prior to
registration. Sorry, no phone registration. Registration for swim lessons begins at 9 a.m. Numbers will be
handed out at 8:30 a.m. Sorry, mail registrations will not be accepted for swim lessons. Registration for other
classes and activities begins at 11 a.m. Numbers will be handed out at 10:30 a.m. Mail registrations will be
processed beginning Mon. Sept. 12. Senior adult registration begins Fri., Sept. 9. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., registration
follows.
2. On Sat. Sept. 10, the opening day of registration, a person may sign up for themselves or their immediate family.
After 3 p.m on this day, you may register for as many as you wish.
3. The parks and recreation office located in the community center is open Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday from 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
4. Where classes are limited, registration will be on a first -come, first- served basis. Persons are not registered until
the fee has been paid. The parks and recreation department reserves the right to cancel classes or activities when an
insufficient number of people have signed up.
5. Instructors will not be permitted to accept registration at the activity location.
6. Refund procedure: Requests for refunds must be made at least 24 hours before the first class session.
There will be a $3 service charge. If you find it necessary to cancel after the first class, make your request
24 hours BEFORE the SECOND class. The class will be prorated plus there will be a $4 service charge.
Refunds are mailed to participants in check form. Please allow 2 -3 weeks for your refund. The refund
procedure for holiday classes and special one session classes are noted in the class descriptions.
7. Sorry, no trip refunds unless cancelled by the parks and recreation department.
8. Persons who register for an activity where capacity enrollment has already been reached will be placed on a
waiting list. Additional classes may be formed if there are sufficient requests and if space and a competent instructor
are available.
9. Senior adults, 62 years and older, who are residents of Brooklyn Center will receive $10 off the registration fee of any
adult activity class $20 or more. This does not apply to supplies, special senior classes which are already reduced, or
classes less than $20. Other exceptions will be noted in class descriptions.
