HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 11-12 CONCMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Conservation Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota November 12, 1970 The Conservation Commission met jointly with the Planning Commission and the meeting commenced at 7:30 P.M. Roll Call: Rosella Gunderson, Bonnie Snater, Brian Murn, Sylvia Winkelman, Peter Simmons and Audre Mossberg. Chairman Mossberg stated that the October 8th and the November 12th minutes will be approved in January, 1971. Members of the Conservation and Planning Commissions met jointly to discuss items of mutual concern. Discussion was centered mainly on the Comprehensive Plan following which an audio visual presentation was made by Commissioner Price on three wildlife natural areas in Brooklyn Center, one of which is • Palmer Lake Park Basin. The joint meeting between the Conservation and Planning Commissions ended at 9:30 P.M. The regular meeting of the Conservation Commission followed at which time plans for the joint F.T.A./Conservation Program at Northport School was Ciscussed. Ml. Don Gunderson volunteered to coordinate this program for his wife who is ill. The Commission next received a presentation of the summary by Commissioner Winkelman of the Kylawn Task Force work area. At the last Kylawn Task Force meeting, it was decided to erect three signs on the southwest corner, northeast corner and central east just off the apartment area. These signs will read: "Wild- life Area" and another sign reading: "No Motorized Vehicles Allowed". These signs should be installed by late fall. Fencing was also discussed and it was decided to use posts in the heavy traffic areas and a hedge of prickly ash, sumac, etc. on the rest of the border areas. These would serve a dual purposes: that of keeping out vehicles and providing sortie protection for wildlife. It would also be more in keeping with the appearance of the area then a fence. It is hoped by the Spring of 1971, the upgrading of the Kylawn Airport area will be completed. -2- Paul Ijare, a camp architect, will be asked to speak at a January Task Force Meeting and the Park and Recreation Commission will be invited. For the remainder of the meeting, the Conservation Commission agreed that they should make a recommendation on the location of the proposed ice arena and consider formulating task forces for Palmer Lake Park Basin. It was also decidec to hold a joint meeting with the Park ana Recreation Commission in December. The meeting adjourned at 11°45 P.M. Chairman
