HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 05-19 CONCMCORRECTED COPY CORRECTED COPY • Minutes of the Proceedings of the Conservation Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota May 19, 1970 The Conservation Commission was called to order by Chairman Audre Mossberg at 8:16 P.M. Roll Call: Chairman Audre Mossberg, Commissioners Rosella Gunderson, Bonnie Snater, Sylvia Winkelman, Peter Simmons and William Price. Also present was B. E. Peterson, Staff Assistant. Commissioner Murn was attending an Environmental Seminar at North Hennepin Junior College. Motion was made by Winkelman and seconded by Snater to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of May 5, 1970, as submitted. The motion carried unanimously. Chairman Mossberg announced that one member of the • Conservation Commission will be able to attend the Minnesota Association of Conservation and Education (MACE) on Thursday, May 21, 1970, at Chanhassen Nature Center of Carver Park. Commissioner Snater announced that the Brooklyn Center Garden Club will have a plant sale during May 23rd and 25th at 2907 - 65th Avenue North. Chairman Mossberg announced that commissioner Murn and other Commissioners who attended will present a resume of North Hennepin Environmental Seminars at the next Conservation meeting. Commissioner Winkelman announced that the Kylawn Airport Task Force Group will meet Thursday, May 21, 1970. Mr. Carl Vogt from the Golden Valley Environmental Science Center and representatives of Crystal and Brooklyn Center Park Departments as well as representatives from the schools for the purpose of a tour, open discussion and the formation of a steering committee. Representatives from the City's Conservation Commission and Mrs. Langsdorf from the Cystal Human Behavior Committee will meet with the principals of the four schools adjacent Y' 40 -2- to the Kylawn Airport area, Tuesday, may 26th, at the Orchard Lane School. The purposes of said meetings are, first, to inform students of the proper use of the area this summer, and secondly, the involvement of the schools in the development and use of said area. Commissioner Snater briefly reported on the Garden Club project held at Northport Saturday, May 16, 1970. Following a recess, the Conservation Commission partici- paGed in a National novironniental test sponsored by CBS on Channel 4. Chairman Mossberg and members of the Commission discussed the need to draw up a simple booklet that would explain the City's new garbage and refuse ordinance. Chairman Mossberg next asked members of the commission to review a summary of activities of the commission for the months of February, March and April and asked them to submit, within a week, any suggestions or revisions. In conjunction with the above, Chairman Mossberg requested that members of the Commission plan ahead for long-term specific conservation projects that should be of concern to the commission as well as the City. Commissioner Simmons briefly discussed with the Commission proposed news column articles relating to Conservation. Motion by Commissioner Peter Simmons and seconded by Commissioner Rosella Gunderson to adjourn. The motion carried unanimously. The Conservation Commission adjourned at 10:37 P.M. Chairman
