HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-208 CCRMember Ed Nelson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 99-208 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXCEED THE NUMBER OF SWORN POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS IN THE BUDGET WHEREAS, the City Manager has proposed a flexible police officer staffing concept in connection with the development of the 2000 budget; and WHEREAS, the process of filling an open police officer position can take as long as eight to ten months before the position is fully replaced; and WHEREAS, the City has experienced a shortage of staffing in the patrol division due to retirements, resignations, and injuries; and WHEREAS, it has been proposed that the City Manager be authorized to exceed the budgeted number of sworn personnel in order to more effectively utilize testing processes and to staff more effectively. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that the City Manager be and hereby is authorized to exceed the budgeted number of sworn personnel within the Police Department budget, provided that the overall personnel budget within the Police Department shall be the target for overall personnel costs in a given budget year. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this authorization shall be effective beginning on January 1, 2000, and expiring on December 31, 2001.
