Member Kay Lasman introduced the following resolution and moved
its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 98-145
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE HEALTHY BEGINNINGS GRANT
APPLICATION OF THE ]HENNEPIN COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Community Health Department has submitted a
grant application to the Minnesota Department of Health for the Minnesota Healthy Beginnings
Program; and
WHEREAS, the grant would provide $705,000 per year (through 2003) to be spent on
visits, by Public Health Nurses, to mothers of newborns in selected areas; and
WHEREAS, there are six areas that are being targeted for these visits, three in the
southern metro area and Robbinsdale, Brooklyn Center and the Camden area in the northern part of
Hennepin County; and
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Community Health Department requests that the
City of Brooklyn Center support this grant application, to the extent that city staffing resources will
allow, by working with them in a collaborative relationship; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota that:
1. The City of Brooklyn Center is supportive of the Minnesota Healthy
Beginnings Program grant application submitted to the Minnesota Department
of Health by the Hennepin County Community Health Department.
2. If the grant application is successful, the City agrees to work cooperatively
with the Healthy Beginnings Program to the extent that city staffing resources
will allow.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Debra Hi l s t r om and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof:
Myrna Kragness, Kathleen Carmody, Debra Hilstrom, Kay Lasman, and Robert
and the following voted against the same: n on e ; P e p p e
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
