HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-168 CCRMember Kathleen Carmody introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. -9~7-163 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT OF THE COLD STORAGE BUILDING ROOF, ESTABLISHING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 1997-18 AND AUTHORIZING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS WHEREAS, it was recently discovered that the rubber roof membrane at the Central Garage cold storage building had pulled away from the perimeter flashing at the roof's edge and was leaking severely; and WHEREAS, repair and/or replacement estimates were solicited and received from a number of vendors; and WHEREAS, review of the quotes indicated that repair of the roof would cost approximately $17,000 and would be guaranteed for only one year. Total replacement of the roof would cost approximately $36,000 and would carry a ten year guarantee; and WHEREAS, all vendors indicated that repair or replacement would be necessary before this winter; and WHEREAS, this repair was not included in the approved 1997 budget; and WHEREAS, sufficient funds are available in the contingency account to pay for the roof replacement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota that: 1. Improvement Project No. 1997-18 is hereby established. 2. Staff is directed to develop specifications for replacement of the roof. 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise for and receive bids for the replacement of the roof. 4. It is contemplated that an appropriation will made from the General Fund contingency account.
