HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984 10-22 CONCAMEMORANDUM
TO: Conservation Commission Members
FROM: Barbara Jensen
DATE: October 22, 1984
SUBJECT: Continuation of Conservation Commission
I am very concerned with what seems to me to be limited commitment and direction for
the Conservation Commission. Rather than becoming an inactive, ineffective
Commission I would suggest that our members become actively involved with the
Housing, Park and Recreation, or Planning Commissions, depending upon your specific
areas of interest.
I do not want to see the Conservation Commission fold, but rather ask the Mayor and
Councilmembers to place the Conservation Commission on moratorium, appointing
Conservation Commission members to the Commission of their choice and suspend the
final decision on the status of the Conservation Commission until the Council
receives direction from the Year 2000 Committee in 1985. I believe that that
suggestion must come from the Conservation Commission members.
The Year 2000 Committee has been charged with recommending to the City Council
methods of effectively encouraging citizen participation in planning, programs and
• projects for the Council's consideration. I do not believe that we should
supersede the Year 2000 Committee's efforts.
The Housing Commission has vacancies and would be a reasonable place for those who
wish to continue their involvement in the areas of energy conservation,
weatherization, passive solar and rehab of existing housing to include conservation
concerns.
The Park and Recreation Commission has vacancies and would be a reasonable place for
those whose interests include public education re open space utilization,
maintenance of passive areas and use and development of our open spaces.
There is also one position available on the Planning Commission. Consideration of
details of development and renovation as well as redevelopment in the City are among
the areas the Planning Commission is involved in.
Please contact either Celia Scott (560-1516) or Brad Hoffman (561-5440) with your
recommendation to this plan and, if you agree with this suggestion, your choice of
Commission to join at least in the interim, contingent upon the Mayor's appointment.
Brad or Celia will need to hear from you no later than October 31.
