of the October 18, 1979 Conservation Commission meeting. The motion passed unani-
mously.
COMMISSIONER'S REPORT
Commissioner Jensen reported that she had just recently attended a conference
entitled "How Can Women Affect the Energy Crisis". She reported that there were
a number of outstanding speakers at the conference. She specifically noted a
California project involving the rehabilitation of fifty-seven (57) red lined
houses that had been retrofitted for solar heating. She also noted that Barry
Commoner was the featured speaker and that he was outstanding. She indicated that
he felt that the rising cost-of energy wasa primary detriment to our society.
He was specifically in favor of active solar systems and bioconversion.
A brief discussion then ensued with Chairman Vetter inquiring as to future dir-
ections for women. Commissioner Jensen replied that they could play a principle
role in exposing people to solar and other alternative sources for energy.
REFORESTATION COMMITTEE
Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman. reported that the committee was a require-
ment for funding under the Shade Tree Disease Act of the State. He also stated
that the State in mandating a reforestation committee did not outline or detail
their specific responsibilities. He indicated that perhaps the Commission should
consider the role that they would like to play and that could be the subject of
future discussions.
HOUSING WORKSHOP DISCUSSION
Administrative Assistant Brad Hoffman introduced the next item by stating that the
Housing Commission was looking at tentatively scheduling the housing seminar for
the four Wednesdays in April. He also indicated that they felt that topics should
be limited to energy conservation and rehabilitation of existing structures.
Commissioner Jensen indicated that she felt that woodburning, window treatments
and energy sensory devices could be possible subjects to be discussed at the
workshop.' Commissioner Dorff indicated that he felt weatherstripping would also
be a good subject. Following a brief discussion, it was the consensus of the
group that the matter be again discussed in further detail at the December meeting
and that there was agreement on the dates in April.

OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Jensen briefly reviewed the recommendations of the Community Develop-
ment Citizens Advisory Group. She stated that they had essentially recommended
the continuance of the program but had added a solar demonstration project. She
indicated up to six (6) homes in Brooklyn Center would be retrofittedas a passive
solar demonstration.
A brief discussion then ensued relative to a Chamber of Commerce report. The
topic involved car-pooling in Brooklyn Center. There was also a brief discussion
about recycling oil stations. It is noted that there are a number of stations
still active including the Shell, Shopper's City, Duke's, West 76 and Christy's.
It was the consensus of the group that the oil recycling should be updated and
promoted.
