COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN
THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF
MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
DECEMBER 16, 1976

Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Comservation Commission met in regular
session and was called to order by Chairman Vetter at 7:45 p.m.
Roll Call Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Dorff, Jensen, Price, and
Livingston. Also present was Administrative Assistant
Ronald Warren.
Chairman Vetter reported that Commissioner Winkelman would
be late for this evening's meeting and that Councilman Britts
would be unable to attend the meeting because of a Teacher-
Principal meeting.
Expiration of The Secretary reported that the terms of office for Commissioner
Commission Terms Jensen and Livingston expire on December 31, 1976. He
of Office inquired if the Commissioners wished to be considered for
reappointment to the Commission. Both Commissioner Jensen
and Commissioner Livingston expressed their desire to continue
serving on the Commission for a three year term.
Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner Dorff and seconded by Commissioner
11-18=76 Livingston to approve the minutes of the November 18, 1976
Conservation Commission meeting as submitted. The motion
passed unanimously.
Solar Heating Commissioner Jensen reported that a tour of the Northview
Facility Tour Junior High School solar heating facility has been arranged
for the Conservation Commission and is scheduled for
Tuesday, December 28, 1976, at 1:30 p.m. She inquired as to
the number of Commissioners that would attend. Chairman
Vetter, Commissioners Dorff, Price, and Livingston all
indicated that they would participate in the tour. A brief
discussion ensued relative to the tour with it being agreed
among the Commissioners to invite other interested persons
to the tour and also to meet for lunch at the Golden Fox at
11:45 p.m.

The next item of business was a brief discussion relative
to Conservation Commission plans for Kaleidoscope 1977.
The Chairman reported that the Commission has decided
to attempt to incorporate energy conservation as a theme
for the Conservation Commission's display. Commissioner
Price stated that he plans to attend a seminar on January 21
entitled "Where Are We Going?" that should be worthwhile
for potential Kaleidoscope displays.
Commissioner Winkelman arrived at 8:40 p.m.
A discussion ensued relative to various natural ways
to heat and cool homes.
Chairman Vetter reported that she is attempting to arrange
a winter hike in Palmer Lake for a Sunday afternoon in the
latter part of February. She explained that- all Commissioners
would be invited as well as their families and other interested
persons. Commissioner Dorff stated that it might be possible
to arrange with Brooklyn Center Community Education to have
a place for refreshments. He added that he will follow up
on this item and report back to the Commission.

Winter Hike
The next item of business on the agenda was a slide presen- Slide Presentation
tation by Commissioner Livingston relating to the Environ-
mental Preserve.
Commissioner Dorff left the meeting at 9:12 p.m.
A brief discussion ensued relative to the slide presentation
and the results of the work done this past summer under
the summer youth work program.
The Secretary reported that he had recently received a
call from Mr. Bill Rossi, Center for Community Action
Program Director. He stated that Mr. Rossi is seeking
to line up other "gathered site" youth projects, similar
to the one done at Brooklyn Center-Crystal Environmental
Preserve last summer. A brief discussion ensued relative
to the areas that might be considered for such projects,
such as the River Ridge Park area and possibly the Palmer
Lake Basin.
Motion by Commissioner Price and seconded by Com-
missioner Winkelman to adjourn the meeting., The
motion passed unanimously. The Brooklyn Center
Conservation Commission adjourned at 10:35 p.m.
