Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Conservation Commission met: in
regular session and was called to order by Chairman
Vetter at 7:40 p.m.

Motion by Commissioner Price and seconded by Commis-

sioner Dorff to approve the minutes of the April 13, 1976
meeting as submitted. The motion passed unanimous1% .
"Pride in Your Cityf1
First item of business on the agenda was a report by
Peport
Chairman Vetter on the "Pride in Your City Campaign;'.
She stated that she had not recei,.red a great deal of response
to a memo tent to teachers and youth leaders Jn Brooklyn

projects. She further stated that other group; had done some

A,brief discussion ensued relative to improving the "Pride
in Your City Campaign" for 1977. Commissioner Dorff
suggested concentrating the effort during one week-end .

Commissioner Winkelman suggested publicizing the event
earlter next year and to include in that publicity various
proposed projects. She stated that this might be beneficial
to groups planning clean up projects.
The Secre ry introduced the next item of 3 usincss, that
of a report on the proposed environmental preserve fall
workshop. He stated that the PomMission, following
a report at the April 15 meeting, had agreed to postpone
conducting the workshop unt4l rtext fall on the advice of
Mr. Don Bechetti and Kenneth Lundgren. He stated that
teachers are not now looking to undertake new projects,
but would be next fall.
Chairman Vetter stated that a Workshop package will
need to be assembled which will contain the materials to
be used along with an explanation of he program. She
further stated that this package should be submitted to
the various school principals by, August 5. She P); rained
that the Commission will have t9. sell to the teacherp on
the benefits of the program.

offer the Environmental Workshop, Commi sioner

may be the best time to conduct the workshop. She
also suggested meeting some time in late July to put
the program together.
The Secretary introduced the heist item of business,
that of a report on the Center for Community Action
Sumpter Youth Project in the Environmental Preserve.

the proposed project submitted by the Environmenntal
Tasce as one of the projects to be done during the
summer of 1976. He stated that youth between the ages
of 14 and 21 will begin working on June 14 and plan to
accomplish all of the various tasks submitted as part of
the total project.
The Secretary briefly reviewed the various proposed
tasks which include building a 3$_0 foot floating bridge,
developing trails and rest areas, 'apd also terracing the
area north of the shelter building. He stated that letters
have been sent to various organIzatiops and businesses
in Brooklyn Center and Crystal requesting donations and
materials that can be used for the project. He explained

that the youth being used as laborers will be directed by
CCA Group Site Supervisors and will be paid through
Federal funds.
A brief discussion ensued with the Secretary explaining
other state and'federal summer youth job programs available
in Brooklyn Center.
Recess The Brooklyn Center Conservation Commission recessed
at 8:45 p.m. and resumed at 9:05 p.m.
Park and Recreation The next item of business was a review and discussion of

the Palmer Lake Basin. Commissioner Price stated that ne

requested information regarding the poss. bility of movi ng
these poles to another location.
Commissioner Forstrom left the meeting at 9:45 p.m.
Further discussion ensued relative to the mark Po.licv Plan.
Commissioner Winkelman expressed her concern for the need
of bicycle trails in Brooklyn Center. Commissioner Price
stated that he favored hawing a few trails and observation
platforms in the Palmer Lake Basin for persons wanting to
observe nature.
Following further discussion it was the consensus of the
Commission to provide the Park and Recreation Commission
