HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975 05-15 CONCMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN, CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA • REGULAR SESSION MAY 15, 1975 CITY HALL Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Conservation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Vetter at 8®10 p.m. Roll Call Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Price, Winkelman, Forstrom and Livingston. Also present was Admini- strative Assistant James Lacina. Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner Winkelman and seconded by 4-17-75 Commissioner Livingston to approve the minutes of the April 17, 1975 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. Oil Depository The secretary introduced the first item of busi- Stations Report ness on the agenda, a report of the Oil Deposi- tory Station project. He noted that he had sent letters of confirmation, from Commissioner Henry Dorff, to the eight interested service stations. • He further commented that he had received five letters acknowledging participation in the project. He noted that Commissioner Dorff would be contacting the remaining three to solicit their response to the program. He briefly reviewed the letter that was sent to the service station operators and the poster that would be on display at each depository station. He noted that hopefully this project will be underway by the first part of .Tune. Girl Scout Chairman Vetter introduced the next item of Recycling Report business on the agenda, the Girl Scout recycling report. She noted that to this date Metro was still operating on a part-time basis. She com- mented that the Girl Scouts were taking cans and paper at the Center and that these products were being transported by metro. She indicated she did not know the exact date that Metro would be cancelling their participation but she did note that when this occurs the Girl Scouts intend to continue with the collection of cans and paper. 4 i Y i 1ide in Your our n de The next item considered was a Pr City Report City report. Commissioner Winkelman noted that to date the project has been very successful. She commented that three groups of students cleaned up in the environmental preserve on May 3 and intend to continue their project again on May 27 with a possibility of working on the wood chip trails. She further commented that a Bluebird roup cleaned up the area near Kylawn Park and would :lso be working on the wood chip trail, She noted that the Brooklyn Methodist Youth Group had cleaned up the west part of Palmer Lake on April;. 26th. Commissioner Dorff arrived at 8:45 p.m. She further reported that she had been in contact with Mr. Hagel regarding painting the shelter building and landscaping in the environmental preserve. She noted that an Eagle Scout had approached her regarding a project in the preserve and possibly landscapiZ around the shelter building. She commented that she would be in contact with this Scout as to the landscapino pos- sibilities. She noted that May 31st was set asra date to paint the building and urged participation it this project. It was the consensus of the Commission not to meet during the month of June, but to hold a summer picnic meeting on the third Thursday'in July. Com- missioner Winkelman and Chairman Vetter indicated that they would organize this get together. Motion by Commissioner Price and seconded by Corr mis- sioner Winkelman to adjourn the meeting.
