HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973 07-12 CONCMS Minutes of the Proceedings of the Conservation Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota REGULAR SESSION JULY 12, 1973 CITY HALL Call to order The Conservation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Vetter at 8:24 p.m. Roll Call Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Price, Almen and Winkelman. Also present was Admini- strative Assistant Daniel Hartman. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Commissioner Price and seconded by 5-24-73 Commissioner Winkelman to approve the minutes of the May 24, 1973 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. Proposed Shelter. Commissioner Winkelman reported on a Building For The proposed shelter building at the Brooklyn Brooklyn Center - Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve. Crystal Environmental She stated that the Brooklyn Center - Preserve Crystal Environmental Preserve Task Group had met and discussed the subject. She commented that it was their recommendation to move the existing shelter building at Willow Lane Park. A lengthy discussion ensued relative to the proposed shelter building. Commissioner Winkelman stated that the Task Group was investigating the cost involved in moving the shelter building. She stated.that the total cost would involve: 1) The moving of the shelter from Willow Lane Park to the Preserve, and 2) The concrete slab required to • place the building on in the Preserve. -1- 7-12-73 Summer Projects In The B kl Commissioner Winkelman also reported on roo yn Center - the 1973 summer projects in the Brooklyn Crystal Environmental Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve. Preserve She stated that a Boy Scout was in the process of improving the trail system. She stated that he was utilizing wood chips and railroad ties to mark the trails. Joint Meeting with Chairman Vetter then introduced the next Brooklyn Center Park item on the agenda. She stated that and Recreation preliminary plans are being formulated for Commission a joint meeting with the Brooklyn Center Park and Recreation Commission. It was the consensus of the Commission that some type of joint meeting be held for the purpose of meeting the new Park and Recreation Commis- sioners and providing for a general discus- sion on conservation items. Chairman Vetter volunteered her home to be the site of the joint meeting. She also stated that she would contact the Chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission to set up the meeting. It was the consensus of the Commission that the joint meeting be held during the last week of August. Recess The Commission recessed at 9:06 p.m. and resumed at 9:51 p.m. Metropolitan Open The Chairman reported on a meeting she Space Program attended sponsored by the Metropolitan Open Space Committee. Shy- stated that the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the major environmental legislation passed in the 1973 session of the Minnesota Legislature A lengthy discussion ensued relative to the major environmental legislation passed by the Minnesota Legislature. Adjournment Motion by Commissioner Almen and seconded by Commissioner Winkelman to adjourn the meet- ing. Motion passed unanimously.
