Minutes of the Proceedings of the
Conservation Commission of the City
of Brooklyn Center in the County of
Hennepin and State of Minnesota
REGULAR SESSION
MAY 24, 1973

Call to order The Conservation Commission met in regular
session and was called to order by Chairman
Vetter at 8:25 p.m.
Roll Call Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Jensen, Byrnes,
Price and Almen. Also present was Admini-
strative Assistant Daniel Hartman.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Commissioner Jensen and seconded
5-10-73 by Commissioner Byrnes to approve the minutes
of the May 10, 1973, meeting. Motion passed
unanimously.
Brooklyn Center - Commissioner Almen reported on the Brooklyn
Crystal Environmental Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve
Preserve Nature Hike Nature Hike. He stated that there were
approximately forty people in attendance.'
Shelter Building The secretary then reported on the proposed
at the Brooklyn moving of a shelter building to the Brooklyn
Center - Crystal Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve. He
Environmental stated that there is a need for the Task
Preserve Group to develop a plan of action.
A discussion ensued relative to the funding
and type of shelter needed for the preserve.
Commissioner Winkelman arrived at 8:59 p.m.
The discussion continued on the concept of a
shelter facility at the Environmental Pre-
serve.
The Commission accepted the staff recommenda-
tion that the Brooklyn Center - Crystal
Environmental Preserve Tank Group develop a
plan of action for a shelter facility at tha
Environmental Preserve.

Brooklyn Center - Commissioner Winkelman then reported on the
Crystal Environmental Brooklyn Center - Crystal Environmental
Preserve Report Preserve projects for 1973. She stated that
there has been a concentrated effort to
develop the trail system in the presarve with
the use of student organizations from the
community.
Recess The Commission recessed at 9:20 p.m. and
resumed at 9:44 p.m.
Summer Meeting The secretary then introduced the next item
Schedule on the agenda relative to a summer meeting
schedule. A discussion ensued on the possi-
bilities of scheduling meetings over the summez
it was the consensus of the Commission that
during the summer only one regular meeting of
the Commission be held each month.
Permanent Meeting Chairman Vetter then presented the Commission
Schedule with the following chairman's policy state-
ment. She stated that the Conservation
Commission will hold only one regular meeting
a month. She also stated that if other
meetings were required, a special study meeting
will be called by the Chairman. She also
stated that this policy will become effective
in June and continua on indefinitely.
Joint Meeting with A discussion ensued relative to the possibili-
Park and Recreation ties of a joint meeting with the Brooklyn
Commission Center Park and Recreation Commission.
Commissioner Price indicated his desire to
discuss the development of the Palmer Lake
area with the new Park and Recreation
Commission.
It was the consensus of the Commission that a
joint meeting between the Park and Recreation
Commission and the Conservation Commission be
planned for the fall.
Adjournment Motion by Commissioner Price and seconded by
Commissioner Almen to adjourn the meeting.
The motion passed unanimously. The Brooklyn
Center Conservation Commission adjourned at
. 10:28 p.m.
