Minutes of the Proceedings of the
Conservation Commis: ion of the City
of Brooklyn Center in the County of
Hennepin and State of Minnesota
REGULAR SESSION
APRIL 12, 1973

Call to Order The Conservation Commission met in regular
session and was called to order by Chairman
Vetter at 8:04 p.m.
Roll Call Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Winkelman,
Byrnes, and Dorff. Also present were
Councilman Maurice Fritts, Mr. Richard
Peterson, Miss Rosemary Logan, Mr. David
Simmons, Mr. David Johnson, Mr. John Puff,
and Administrative Assistant Daniel Hartman.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Commissioner Winkelman and
March 22, 1973 seconded by Commissioner Byrnes to approve
the minutes of the March 22, 1973, meeting.
The motion passed unanimously.
Presentation of Resolution Chairman Vetter introduced Mr. Richard Peterson,
to Mr. Richard Peterson wildlife photographer and presented him with a
resolution of appreciation passed by the
Conservation Commission on March 22, 1973.
Mr. Peterson thanked the Commission for the
resolution and stated that he was accepting the
resolution for the citizens of Brooklyn Center
who were interested in the environment.
Welcome to students Chairman Vetter then welcomed Miss Rosemary
from Brooklyn Center Logan, Mr. David Simmons, Mr. David Johnson,
High School and Mr. John Puff. The four students stated that
they were from Brooklyn Center High School and
that they were attending the meeting for their
economics class.
Conservation Proposal The next item on the agenda was to review the
for Community Education Conservation Proposal for the Community Education
Council Council. Commissioner Dorff reported that he
had presented the rough draft proposal to the
Community Education Council and that the Council
was enthusiastic about the topics. He also stated
that the Council was to incorporate their. community
interest survey in the Commission's topics.

Commissioner Dorff continued by stating that three
of the projects were to be carried out this spring:
the tour of River Ridge Park, the nature hike in the
Brooklyn Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve,
and the water safety demonstration. He commented
that the tour of River Ridge Park was scheduled for
May 5, 1973.
Commissioner Almen arrived at 9:09 P.M.
Recess The Commission recessed at 9:10 p.m. and
resumed at 9:35 p.m.
It was the consensus of the Commission that the
final approval of the conservation proposal for
Community Education be deferred until the next
meeting to allow the staff time to revise the
layout of the topics.
Conservation Chairman Vetter stated that a newsletter should be
Newsletter sent. out to the schools this spring informing the
students of Conservation projects that will be
carried on over the summer. It was the consensus
of the Commission that Chairman Vetter draft a
newsletter to be distributed this spring in the
• Brooklyn Center school,.
House File No. 150 The secretary then informed the Commission of
the City Council's action relating to House File
No. 150 amending the Minnesota Environmental
Rights Act. He stated that the City Council had
the Commission's recommendation under advisement.
He also stated that the City Council was looking
into the Commission's recommendations dealing
with deposits on throwaway containers.
Brooklyn Center - Crystal Commissioner Almen reported on the Brooklyn
Environmental Preserve Center - Crystal Environmental Preserve nature
Nature Hike hike planned for this spring. He stated that the
hike would occur May 20, 1973.
Adjournment Motion by Commissioner Almen and seconded by
Commissioner Dorff to adjourn the meeting. The
motion passed unanimously. The Brooklyn Center
Conservation Commission adjourned at 10:39 p.m.
