i Conservation Commission of the City
of Brooklyn Center in the County of
Hennepin and State of Minnesota
September 14, 1972
The Conservation Commission met in regular session and was called
to order by Chairman Vetter at 6:09 P.M.
Roll Call: Chairman Vetter, Commissioners Byrnes, Dorff, Price,
Almen and Snater. Also present was Administrative Assistant Dan
Hartman.
Motion by Commissioner Dorff and seconded by Commissioner Price
to approve the minutes of the July 13, 1972 meeting. The motion
passed unanimously.
Motion by Commissioner Snater and seconded by Chairman Vetter to
approve the minutes of the August 10, 1972 meeting. The motion
passed unanimously.
Chairman Vetter introduced Mr. Ronald Byrnes as the newly
• appointed member of the Conservation Commission and welcomed him.
The Chairman then introduced Mrs. Feser, Chairman of the Adult
Education Committee of the Minnesota Environmental council and
representing the Minnesota'Environmental Council and representing
the Minnesota Environmental Control Citizens Association. She
discussed a course offered by School District 281 entitled "Environ-
mental Decision Making".
Commissioner Winkelman arrived at 8:22 P.M.
Mrs. Feser continued by presenting the goals and objectives of
the course. She stated that the course was offered as a night course
in the school district.
Chairman Vetter announced that on September 27, 1972, the
Governor's Environmental Education Council would be meeting in the
Social Hall of the Brooklyn enter Civic Center. She stated that the
Council hack requested the Brooklyn Center Conservation Commission to
prepare a presentation to be given at the meeting. She commented
that such a presentation should show the achievements of the Conser-
vation Commission since its establishment in 1970. Commissioner Price
and Commissioner Winkelman then volunteered to prepare a slide pre-
sentation to be presented to the Governor's Council.

Chairman Vetter stated that such a presentation should be pre-
sented at the next regular meeting of the Commission along with a
report on the Governor's Environmental Education Council meeting.
The Secretary then reminded the commissioners that they were
registered to attend the Minnesota Environmental Site Symposium.
The Conservation Commission recessed at 9:40 P.M. and resumed
at 10:00 P.M.
Commissioner Dorff discussed at length the developments of
Fridley's Islands of Peace Proposal as they relate to the Mississippi
River Islands.
The next item on the agenda was a report on the Freeway Committee.
Commissioner Dorff stated that the State Highway Department still had
the Committee's recommendations under advisement.
Chairman Vetter reported that the re-cycling drive task group
had $103.00 in their treasury to be used for conservation projects in
Brooklyn Center. It was the consensus of the commission that this
money was to be used only with the approval of the Brooklyn Center
Jaycee's and the Conservation Commission. She stated that the task
group was in the process of developing a flyer to be distributed to
the residents of Brooklyn Center. She also stated that Mr. Herman
Gutzke was resigning as Chairman of the Re-cycling Drive Task Group
and that the Jaycee's were searching for a replacement.
. The proposed by-laws for the Conservation Commission were
distributed for study to the Commissioners.
Chairman Vetter announced that New Hope has created an environ-
mental commission. Commissioner Dorff stated that he was also aware
of a new Conservation Commission established in Fridley. it was the
consensus of the Conservation Commission that a letter be sent to the
Chairman of the two Environmental Commissions, inviting their
Commissions to attend a Brooklyn Center Conservation Commission
meeting.
Commissioner Snater then announced that she was resigning effect-
ive October 1, 1972, in that she was moving out of the City.
Motion by Commissioner Almen and seconded by Commissioner Snater
to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The Brooklyn
Center Conservation Commission adjourned at 10:52 P.M.
