HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-48 CCRMember Jerzak introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 2024-48 RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL 26, 2024, TO BE ARBOR DAY AND MAY 2024 TO BE ARBOR MONTH IN BROOKLYN CENTER WHEREAS, Trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our lives by purifying air and water, helping conserve soil and energy, serving as recreational settings, providing habitat for wildlife of all kinds and malting our cities more livable; and WHEREAS, Trees in our City increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas and beautify our community; and WHEREAS, Human activities such as pollution, as well as drought, disease and insects threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of urban and rural forests in our state, country and world; and WHEREAS, People can contribute to the environmental stewardship of our community by locally planting trees and ensuring that these trees are nurtured, protected and wisely used in the years ahead; and WHEREAS, The City of Brooklyn Center desires to continue its tree management efforts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, that 1. April 26, 2024, to be Arbor Day in the City of Brooklyn Center. 2. May 2024 to be Arbor Month in the City of Brooklyn Center. 3. I urge all community members to support efforts to care for our trees and woodlands and to support our City's Coni nunity Forestry Program. RESOLUTION NO.2024-48 April 22, 2024 Date ATTEST: City Clerk Mayor The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Lawrence -Anderson and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Butler, Graves, Jerzak, Kragness, Lawrence -Anderson and the following voted against the same: none whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
