COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT

• The City Council had adopted nine specific goals for 2008. These goals centered on
crime reduction, code enforcement and redevelopment.
• The City Council is working with staff and the Housing Commission on Rental Housing
and Foreclosure strategies. Councilmember Yelich detailed some of the major
components of the strategies.
CENTERBROOK-CROSS MARKETING ACTIVITIES
CARS Director Glasoe reported that the Centerbrook Golf Course staff had been working with
Brookland Golf Course in Brooklyn Park and New Hope Golf Course in New Hope regarding
cross marketing activities.
Mr. Glasoe shared examples of two strategies that had been implemented for 2008. The first was
a passbook, where passes could be used at any of the three courses. The second was a series of
. three youth tournaments, with one held at each of the courses. Mr. Glasoe added that teams
would be solicited to represent each of the courses and the tournaments would include greens
fees, food and prizes. •
BROOKLYN CENTER YOUTH COLLABORATIVE
CARS Director Glasoe reported that the CARS Department had been involved in a new initiative
related to youth, called the Brooklyn Center Youth Collaborative. Mr. Glasoe noted that the
group had been meeting since February, and included representation from the CARS and Police
Departments, the Brooklyn Center School District, Hennepin County Probation, the faith
community and other social service organizations.
Mr. Glasoe noted the intent of the group was to identify resources available to the youth of the
community and to develop a calendar of events for the summer. CARS Director Glasoe added
that he was encouraged by the early success of the group and hoped the initial interest continued.
KYLAWN PARK SHELTER BUILDING
CARS Director Glasoe noted that "If a picture is worth a thousand words, a personal visit is even
better" and, as evidenced by the tour, the contractor was making significant progress and should
have little difficulty meeting its July 1, 2008 deadline.
STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION
CARS Director Glasoe reminded the Commission that the CARS Department had received a
Communities Empowering Youth grant, intended to increase the department's capacity to serve .
the diverse community.
