HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 06-19 PRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION • FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION JUNE 19, 2007 COMMUNITY ROOM #221, COMMUNITY CENTER CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Sorenson called the meeting to order at 7:52 p.m. ROLL CALL Chair Sorenson, Commissioners Ebert, Lee, Peterson and Theis were present. Commissioners Russell and Shinnick were absent and excused. Also present was City Council Liaison Mary O'Connor and Community Activities, Recreation and Services Director Jim Glasoe. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By consensus, the agenda was approved. • APPROVAL OF MINUTES - April 18, 2007 Commissioner Peterson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Lee to approve the May 15, 2007 minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission as presented. The motion was unanimously approved. COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT Councilmember O'Connor reported the following items from recent City Council meetings. • The City Council had accepted a donation of 11 pieces of exercise equipment for the Community Center from James and Lori Dean. • A public hearing had been set for July 9t' regarding the Charter Commission's recommendations regarding City Council filing fees. • The Council had approved an underground water treatment facility in the area of the Regal Theatre. • Announced the upcoming Earle Brown Days events ADOPT-A-PARK- Summer Clean-up Chair Sorenson asked if Commissioners might be available to assist in cleaning up Marlin and Lakeside Parks on Saturday, July 14th, at 9:00 a.m. Chair Sorenson noted that he would be able to clean Lakeside on his own, but was looking for volunteers to assist at Marlin Park. Commissioners were asked to check there calendars and come on the 141h, if available. 0 e-CONNECT INTERNET REGISTRATION- Update • CARS Director Glasoe reported that the new e-CONNECT internet registration program had begun on May 16th. Mr. Glasoe noted that the first internet registration was received at 12:22 a.m. on the 16th. Mr. Glasoe indicated that, through June 10th, just over $10,000 in internet registrations had been received. 25TH ANNUAL DUDLEY BUDWEISER MINNESOTA CLASSIC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT CARS Director Glasoe informed the Commission that the 25th Annual Dudley/Budweiser Minnesota Classic softball tournament held June 15th-17th had been very successful. Mr. Glasoe noted that this year's tournament featured 40 teams. Mr. Glasoe continued that the weather cooperated and that everyone thought things went well. 25TH ANNUAL EARLE BROWN DAYS FESTIVAL CARS Director Glasoe handed out schedules of the Earle Brown Days events. OTHER Commissioner Peterson asked when the Palmer Lake Trail would be striped. CARS Director Glasoe indicated that he would ask about the status of the striping and report back at a future meeting. . SET NEXT MEETING DATE By consensus, and unless there is a need for a special meeting, the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was set for September 18, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in Community Room #221 of the Brooklyn Center Community Center. MEETING ADJOURNED Commissioner Peterson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Ebert, to adjourn the meeting at 8:22 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. 0
