CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Sorenson called the meeting to order at 7:28 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Chair Sorenson, Commissioners Ebert, Lee, Peterson, Russell and Theis were present.
Commissioner Shinnick was absent and excused. Also present was City Council Liaison Mary
O'Connor, City Councilmember Kay.Lasman and Community Activities, Recreation and
Services Director Jim Glasoe.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
By consensus, the agenda was approved.
• APPROVAL OF MINUTES - April 18, 2007
Commissioner Russell noted that the item regarding the Adopt-A-Park Clean up should reflect
that he was in attendance at the Saturday clean up.
Council Liaison O'Connor noted that, under the Council Liaison Report, the minutes regarding
the Olive Garden, Cracker Barrel and Day's Inn property should read Council "majority" was to
wait for a corporate headquarters type development. Councilmember Lasman indicated that she
felt consensus was the correct term regarding the City Council's stance on the issue.
After some additional discussion, Chair Sorenson directed that the minutes be changed to "The
majority of the City Council expressed the opinion that they wished to wait for a corporate
headquarters type development."
Commissioner Russell made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Ebert to approve the April
17, 2007 minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission as amended.
COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT
Councilmember O'Connor reported the following items from recent City Council meetings.
• She had expressed to the City Council the Commission's concern regarding Hennepin
County's resurfacing of Bass Lake Road.
0 0 The City Council had approved an application for a hotel development next to the Earle
Brown heritage Center. The development includes a 175 room Embassy Suites Hotel, a
100 seat restaurant and includes an internal link to the EBHC. •
• A City Council joint session with the Crystal City Council had been set for May 29th and
a joint session with the Brooklyn Center School Board was being scheduled.
• Policy regarding water shut off s had been amended.
• The Council had authorized a joint agreement with Brooklyn Park to take part in the
PERF study regarding violent crime in the two cities.
• The Council had established the 2008 Neighborhood Street Reconstruction project for the
Maranatha area.
• The Council had established a city improvement project for Kylawn Park improvements,
and authorizing a professional services agreement
• Announced the upcoming Earle Brown Days events

TOURNAMENT
CARS Director Glasoe informed the Commission that the 25th Annual Dudley/Budweiser
Minnesota Classic softball tournament was scheduled for June 15-17. Mr. Glasoe noted that this
year's tournament will feature 40 teams, with 23 teams coming from out of state.
Mr. Glasoe noted that the Dudley Tournament is rated as the number one or two tournament in
the country, with the tournament winner receiving an automatic berth to the U.S.S.S.A World
Series in Orlando.

25 ANNUAL EARLE BROWN DAYS FESTIVAL
CARS Director Glasoe noted that Council Liaison O'Connor had already detailed most of the
upcoming events scheduled for the Earle Brown Days festival that will run from June 28- 30.
Mr. Glasoe handed out schedules of the Earle Brown Days events.
E-Connect INTERNET REGISTRATION
CARS Director Glasoe informed the Commissioners that the CARS Department would begin
internet registration at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, May 16th. Mr. Glasoe added that he
would track the progress of the internet registration and report back at a future meeting.
SUMMER TEEN PROGRAMMING CONSORTIUM
CARS Director Glasoe reported that the reaction to the combined teen programming brochure
had been quite positive, but noted that the real test would come a youth began to register for the
programs.
Mr. Glasoe added most of the registration periods would begin soon, and added that he would
have more detailed registration information available for the September meeting.
SET NEXT MEETING DATE •
By consensus, the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was set for
June 20, 2007, with a parks tour scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. in
• Community Room #221 of the Brooklyn Center Community Center.
MEETING ADJOURNED
Commissioner Russell made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Lee, to adjourn the meeting
at 8:15 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
