CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Sorenson called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Chair Sorenson, Commissioners Peterson, Russell and Shinnick were present. Commissioners
Ebert and Theis were absent and excused., Commissioner Lee was absent. Also present was
Community Activities, Recreation and Services Director Jim Glasoe
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
By consensus, the agenda was approved.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - January 16, 2007
Chair Sorenson noted that, as there was not a quorum of members that were present at the
January meeting, he would prefer that the minutes be held over to the April meeting for approval.
Councilmember O'Connor arrived at the meeting at 7:08
COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT
Councilmember O'Connor reported the following items from recent City Council meetings.
• US Bench Company will be removing eight bus benches from various locations in the
community.
• The Osseo Bus Company was seeking approval for the construction of another building
on their property.
• A joint meeting with the Brooklyn Park City Council had been scheduled for April 430,h.
• Earle Brown Days events are scheduled for June 21, 22 and 23.
• Bids for Sanitary Sewer Lift Station 42 replacement are being solicited
• Brookdale Ford had closed their Brooklyn Center location and merged their operations
with Superior Ford in Plymouth.
• Councilmember Mark Yelich had suggested the idea of a Farmers Market in Brooklyn
Center.
PICNIC SHELTER RENTAL FEES
CARS Director Glasoe reported that in June of last year, and as recommended by the
Commission, the city begun charging rental- fees for the exclusive use of the picnic shelters. Mr.
Glasoe noted that during the last half of 2006, 22 separate rentals were booked, with total
revenues of $710.00. Mr. Glasoe added that rental requests for 2007 are already starting to come
in.
Mr. Glasoe noted that staff had indicated no opposition was voiced from residents or non-
residents regarding the charges.
PARK TREES STROM DAMAGE
CARS Director Glasoe reported that he had spoken with Public Work's Director Todd
Blomstrom regarding the status of the tree clean-up following the September 2005 storm. Mr.
Glasoe noted that Mr. Blomstrom indicated that, for the most part, the clean-up was complete.
Mr. Glasoe shared that Mr. Blomstrom noted that, at this point, there was no intention to go into
Palmer Lake or some of the other more remote locations and remove the deadfall, as this would
be cost prohibitive
2007 AGENDA ITEMS
Chair Sorenson reiterated that Commissioners should feel free to bring forward agenda items at
any time during the year.
Some potential items discussed included an outdoor wading pool, a splash park next to the
Community Center and increasing the number of park tours for the Commission.
PARK GRAFFITI
CARS Director Glasoe reported that he had an extended conversation with Public Works
Director Todd Blomstrom regarding graffiti removal. Mr. Glasoe reported that Mr. Blomstrom
indicated all reports of graffiti would be consolidated on a single data base and that quotes had
been solicited from private firms for removal costs.
Mr. Glasoe continued that staff would then determine how best to remove the graffiti based on
cost and staff availability. Mr. Glasoe reported that Mr. Blomstrom had noted that the intent was
to have all graffiti removed within 48 to 72 hours.

SKATEPARK EQUIPMENT
CARS Director Glasoe reported that staff was still in the process of developing the Request For
Proposals for skate park equipment and that they still hoped to have the RFP's out and bids back
yet this spring.
OTHER
Adopt-A-Park Kick-off Date
CARS Director Glasoe noted the kick-off date for this year's Adopt-A-Park, trail and Street
Program was scheduled for April 21", 9:00 a.m. at the Community Center.
CARS Director Glasoe asked if any of the Commissioners would be available to assist with the
refreshments for the kick-off event. Commissioner Russell agreed to assist. CARS Director
Glasoe noted that Commissioner Lee had also indicated a willingness to help.
Centerbrook Opens
CARS Director Glasoe reported that Centerbrook had opened for the season on Monday, March
26".
SET NEXT MEETING DATE
By consensus, the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was set for
April 17, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in Community Room #221 of the Brooklyn Center Community
Center.
MEETING ADJOURNED
Commissioner Shinnick made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Russell, to adjourn the
meeting at 8:02 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
