REDUCED RATES FOR WATER SLIDE
Councilperson Rosene wondered whether something could be done to
reduce membership rates for low income families. There was a
discussion about this idea with the general consensus being that
this could be a problem, especially with determining who is
eligible. The Director of Recreation mentioned that we do have
Bargain Days now; the first Monday, second Wednesday, third
Friday of the month. After some discussion, it was determined to
make every Monday except legal holidays a Bargain Day.
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION PRIORITIZATION PLAN,
Personnel Coordinator Barone explained how the Human Rights
commission came up with their prioritization plan and the basics
of how it works. 'She went over the form and answered questions
about it. A general discussion of the system followed and
Commissioner Rickart mentioned there could be some problems with
this plan. Personnel Coordinator, Barone agreed, but felt these
problems could be worked out. Chairman Sorenson thought maybe it
would be best to look over the forms and give some feedback to
Personnel Coordinator Barone. She agreed to help with this. It
was then agreed upon by the commissioners to put this plan on the
September agenda but the commissioners should give their feedback
to Personnel Coordinator Barone by Friday, June 9.

CHAIRPERSON ELECTION,

the city council in which the chairperson of the various
commissions would be elected by the members of the commission. A
general discussion of this resolution followed.
MISSISSIPPI RIVER PROJECT
Director of Recreation Mavis gave a brief talk on the Mississippi
River Project. He mentioned that Hennepin County was buying up
land along the Mississippi River and someday would take over
Riverridge Park as part of the county trail system. This would
all fit in with the Mississippi River Project. He also mentioned
the Park and Recreation Commission needed to pass a resolution
that they were in favor of this project. A motion was made by
Commissioner Shinnick and seconded by Commissioner Russell that
Brooklyn Center should be a part of this project. The motion
passed.
SHINGLE CREEK CLEAN UP
Commissioner Pollock reported that the second annual Shingle
Creek Clean Up was a success. Fifty three bags of refuse were
collected. She mentioned that some young people from the
Brooklyn Center High School YES program participated in the clean
up. She also mentioned that the Brooklyn Center Lions Club
provided refreshments.
Director of Recreation Mavis also mentioned that the Adopt a Park
program is doing well. Chairperson Sorenson asked if we should
do it again next year. Commissioner Mead said we should wait and
see how Adopt A Park is doing next year and maybe incorporate the
Shingle Creek Clean Up with that program. There was a general
agreement to do this. Commissioner Pollock also stated that she
was keeping a scrapbook about the cleanup. She also mentioned
the area around the MTC garage was very messy. Councilperson
Pedlar said he will see if something can be done about this.
Chairperson Sorenson thanked Commissioner Pollock for her work on
the cleanup and said what a good job everyone did.
OTHER BUSINESS
Director of Recreation Mavis said that Centerbrook Golf Course
was off to a good start with the number of rounds a little ahead
of last year. He also reported on the waterslide and that the
use of the waterslide was very good. He also stated that the
people using the waterslide were very happy with it. Director of
Recreation Mavis then went on to give a brief talk on how he was
asking for money for playground equipment for two parks in the
1993 budget. He felt that the two parks should be Freeway and
Northport. There was some discussion about this matter and
Chairperson Sorenson said we should wait until the budget is
approved and then make a final decision.
