HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985 01-15 PRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION JANUARY 15, 1985 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Sorenson at 7:30 p.m. ROLL CALL Chairman Sorenson, Comissioners Skeels, Bloomstrand, Peterson and Manson. Also present were Councilmember Bill Hawes, City Manager Gerald Splinter, Paul Fjare representing Brauer and Associates and Gene Hagel Director of Parks and Recreation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - NOVEMBER 20, 1984 The minutes of the November 20, 1984 meeting were approved as submitted. INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMISSION MIBER Chairman Sorenson introduced Mr. Carl Manson, the newly appointed Park and Recreation Commission member representing Park Service Area II. UPDATE ON GOLF COURSE FEASIBILITY STUDY The City Manager reviewed the location of the proposed golf course and discussed the relocation of the existing Little League fields. He also reviewed the alternatives for the location of the clubhouse and noted that meetings had been scheduled with Little League representatives regarding the proposed exchange of land for the relocation of the Little League field. Mr. Paul Fjare reviewed the clubhouse, parking lot and putting green location and also the layout of the Little League fields, two fields back to back. He then reviewed the layout of the golf course and the location of the hedges, landscaping and fencing. A question of the Commission regarding the distance from the first tee to the ball diamond was discussed and also the noise factor from the highway. The Commission also discussed the similarities with the New Hope, Roseville and Richfield golf courses which are also located close to the major highways. The City Manager briefly reviewed the income and expense projections over a 20 year period. UPDATE ON FINE ARTS COMMITTEE The Director of Parks and Recreation noted that Marsha Griffith has requested a member of the Chamber of Commerce to serve on the Fine Arts Committee and also noted that Miss Sue LaCrosse, Program Supervisor for the City will be the representative from the Park and Recreation Department serving on the Fine Arts Committee.
