HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977 01-18 PRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION JANUARY 18, 1977 CITY HALL Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Johnson at 7;12 p.m. Roll Call Chairman Johnson, Commissioners Hickman, Whittaker, Nyquist, Schroeder, and Velasco. Also present were David Larson, Park Service Area I; Nancy Lotthammer and Richard Mika, Park Service Area III; Janet Reardon, Park Service Area IV; Director of Parks and Recreation Gene Hagel, Landscape Technician Bob Hill, and Administrative Assistant Ronald Warren. Chairman Johnson reported that Commissioner Bogle was out of town and unable to attend this evening's meeting and was, therefore, excused. He further reported that Councilman Kuefler would be late to this evening's meeting. Review Park Drawing Chairman Johnson introduced the first item of business for Lions Park on the agenda, that of a review of the proposed park plan drawing for Lions Park. The Director of Parks and Recreation and Landscape Technician Bob Hill proceeded to review the drawings for Lions Park, noting the theme of the park, equipment, shelter building, playfields, and other features of the proposed plans. A brief discussion ensued relative to the proposed park plan with Commissioner Velasco commenting that the area surrounding this park is experiencing a second generation of children, so to speak, which will ilitrodu.ce more activity tb this park in the relatively near future. Welcome to Robbinsdale Chairman Johnson welcomed a group of Robbinsdale Junior High Students Junior High School students that were in attendance at this evening's meeting as part of a class project. He briefly reviewed the duties, responsibilities, and scope of the Park and Recreation Commission and also back- grounded the students on the Commission's present review of the entire park system. He stated that the Commission will be breaking up into Park Service Area -1- 1-18-77 groups to review and evaluate the needs of the various parks, and invited the students to sit in on these group discussions and to offer their opinions regarding the improvement and/or development of particular parks. Chairman Johnson introduced the next item of business, that of the Park Service Area group discussions. He explained that this will be the last evening for these discussions and urged each Commissioner to submit his or her recommendations prior to the February Commission meeting. The Park and Recreation Commission broke up into Park Service Area groups for discussion, review and evaluation purposes at 7:43 p.m. Councilman Kuefler arrived at 8:00 p.m. Following the completion of the Park Service Area group discussions, the meeting was adjourned.
