The Park and Recreation Commission tr.st in regular session and was
called to order biT,Chairman Don Reichel at 7:40 P.M.
Members present were Don Reichel, Ruth Lind, Roger Pickering, and
Cenly Hill. Also present were Councilman Maurice Britts and staff
members Gene Hagel, Arnie Mavis, Doug Bryant, and Kathy Desteian.
The minutes of the previous meeting of April 12, 1972, were approved
as recorded.
For the first order of business Chairman Reichel recognized
Mrs. Cecilsa Scott, who represented approximately 30 people in
attendance from the Twin Beach Park area. Mrs. Scott presented a
petition, signed by residents from the area, requesting improvements
at the Park. A discussion followed at which time the Director
answered questions from the audience and outlined the scheduled
improvements.
Following the discussion a motion was made by Roger Pickering and
seconded by Ruth Lind that the petition be accepted. The motion
passed unanimously.
Next on the agenda was a report from staff members on the existing
recreation activities and a discussion of the proposed Summer Program.
Arnie Mavis reported on Community Center, Game room, Social Fall,
and Swimming activities Doug Bryant gave a report of Teen Programs,
Adult Athletics, and Youth Athletics; and Kathy Desteian reported
on Adult Classes, Senior Citizen activities, Community Center Art
Gallery, Playgrounds, and Childrens' After-School Programs.
Chairman. Reicjacl cn briefly; or 4,:. a Zi- yor
and City Manager stating that the Council would like to review the
questionnaire regarding park improvements and that the mark and
Recreation ordinance is being reviewed and up-dated, giving a clearer
definition of the Cammission's responsibilities.
