HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971 12-15 PRMrMinutes of the proceeCings of the Park and Recreation Commission of the CITY OF BRO0YE YN CENTER in the COUNTY OF HE;.ZTEPIN and the STATE OF MIMTESOTA December 15,1971 The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Don Reichel at 7:50 P.M. Members present were Don Reichel, Earl Larson, Henrietta Anderson and Ruth Lind. Also present were Gene Hagel and Arnie Mavis. Absent were Ron Coop, Wayne Finley and. Bruce .Morrow. The minutes of the previous meeting of November 10,1971 were approved as recorded. Commissioners Reichel and Lind commented on their attendance at a portion of the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association Conference in Rochester on December lst. The tour of Rochester's park and recreational facilities was especially interesting, and the formation of a Commissioners Section in -the MRPA is considered a valuable means to exchange information and discuss problems with other Park and Recreation Hoards throughout the state. The Commission next reviewed Council Resolution x#71-15 Authorizing Snowmobile Trails and Operations in certain City Parks. After a discussion which noted -che landscaping improvements in the Civic Center area, the following motion was made by Earl Larsen and seconded by Henrietta Anderson: To recommend to the City Council that Item #1 of Resolution #71-15 be amended to read "In Central Park (excluding Garden City Park and that portion lying East of Shingle Creek" and further -chat Item 03 be amended to read "Within Shingle Creek and the contiguous City owned space between Palmer Lake and I-94. The motion was carried. The next item was a discussion of the selection of the two parks to be used as pilot projects in the Neighborhood Park Study. Commissioner Larsen suggested that two different types of parks be selected: a larger, more completed park and a newer, smaller, lesser developed park, located on opposite sides of the City. After further discussion it was agreed to select Northport and East Palmer Parks as the pilot study parks. It was further agreed that Commissi.onc= Reichel Lind and Anderson would work with the ad hoc committee from Northport and Commissioners Larsen and Morrow would work with the East Palmer Committee. The Commissioners will meet with the ad hoc committees early in January and report back at the meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission in January. Schedules for further Page 2 meetings will be discussed at that time. An election of officers was held.
