Park and Recreation Commission of the
CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER in the COUNTY
OF R:PNNEPIN and the STATE OF MINNESOTA
March 3, 1971
'The Park and Recreation Commission met in special session
and was called to order by Chairman Don Reichel at 7:30 P.M.
Members present were Don Reichel, Henrietta Anderson, Ron
Coop, Earl Larsen, Ruth Lind, and Bruce Morrow. Member
absent was Wayne Finley.
The minutes of the meeting of February 10, 1971 were
approved as recorded.
The Chairman gave a brief report of the joint Park and
Recreation, Planning, and Conservation Commission meeting
which was held February 25. The meeting was chaired by
Mayor Cohen who introduced representatives of each commis-
sion who in turn presented brief statements of philosophies
and objectives. Mr. Hagel, speaking for the Park and
Recreation Commission, reviewed the Master Park Plan as
it was conceived in 1957, and traced the progress of land
acquisition and development to date. He discussed types
of parks and play areas and proposed acreages of the
park system.
Mr. Jensen, Chairman of the Planning Commission, dis-
cussed some of the goals of the Planning Commission and
indicated their efforts to preserve open space.
Mrs. Mossberg, Chairman of the Conservation Commission
presented the short and long-ranged objectives of the
commission and their relationship to park planning.
It was the feeling of those who attended that there exists
a need for closer communication and information among
commissions and a need for greater understanding of under-
lying problems of each commission.
The Chairman next introduced Mr. David Anderson, Chairman
of the Twin Lake Improvement Council who presented a
plan for a study of Twin Lake. After questions and dis-
cussion it was moved by Commissioner Larsen and seconded
by Commissioner Anderson to go on record as approving
the plan as presented and directing that a letter be sent
to him in support of his efforts. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 P.M.
