Park and Recreation Commission of the
CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER in the COUNTY
OF HENNEPIN and the STATE OF MINNESOTA
February 19, 1969
The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular ses-
sion and was called to order by Don Reichel, Chairman,
at 8:00 P.M.
Members present were Don Reichel, Les Hagen, Ruth Lind,
Bruce Morrow, and Warren Olson. Also present were Gene
Hagel and Raymond Ecklund-. Member Earl Larson arrived
later as hereinafter indicated.
The minutes of the meeting of December 3, 1968, were
approved as recorded.
The Board discussed the organization and operation of
the Youth Football program noting their observations
and complaints received regarding certain aspects of
the program. It was agreed that the leaders of the
program should be invited to the July meeting of the
Commission to discuss the problems and attempt to set
up guidelines and regutlations.
The Capital Improvements Priority Schedule was reviewed
and discussed. The Board concurred with the program
as presented.
The plan for the development of the park area on Lower
Twin Lake, as proposed by Midwest Planning and Research,
Inc., was presented. Following discussion a motion
was made by Bruce Morrow seconded by Les Hagen, to ap-
prove the plan as proposed,
Member Earl Larson arrived during discussion of the
Twin Lake Plans.
Assistant Ray Ecklund discussed certain hi-lites of the
Winter Program noting that the hockey program has grown
to 27 teams with over 400 boys participating. Womens
volleyball has 19 teams with approximately 200 persons
participating. The Teen Drama Club is presenting its
full-scale production - "Little Women" at the Earle
Brown School auditorium, Saturday,, March 1.

A special children's matinee will be held at 2:00 P.M.,
the evening performance is scheduled for 8:15 P.M. The
Adult Civic Chorus and Children's Chorus will present
a variety show "Two For The Show!" on April 19.
The site plans for the East and West Palmer Lake play-
ground areas were presented and discussed. The Direc-
tor noted that a meeting with the Palmer Lake residents
is contemplated for the near future to discuss the Palmer
Lake development in its entirety. It is anticipated
that Mr. Brauer of Brauer and Associates will make the
presentation.
The Director next showed slides taken during a tour of
the Iowa City and Waterloo Community Centers. A dis-
cussion followed.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 P.M.
