HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968 07-23 PRMMinutes of the proceedings of the Park and Recreation Commission of the CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER in the COUNTY OF HENNEPIN and the STATE OF MINNESOTA 9 July 23, 1968 The Park and Recreation Commission met in special session at the Berean Church at 8:00 p.m. Members present were Don Reichel and Warren Olson. Also present were Mayor Cohen and Director of Parks and Recreation, Gene Hagel. Mayor Cohen introduced the members of the Commission and turned the meeting over to chairman Don Reichel. Mr. Reichel explained that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the development of the park at 65th and Bryant. Approximately 75 people were present. The Chairman next introduced Mr. Hagel who first reviewed briefly the Master Park Plan as developed in 1957 and the planning prin- ciples as pertaining to this particular park. Mr. Hagel then presented and discussed the preliminary plan show- ing the layout for this park. He reviewed the history and plans for the park as follows: 1. The acquisition of property was completed during 1966. It was purchased with 50/ matching federal funds and consists of approximately ten acres. 2. Supervised programming has been provided during the summers of 1967 and 1968. 3. Plans for 1968 include: a. installation of playground equipment b. grading, topsoiling, seeding c. shelter building d. skating rink 4. Plans for 1969 include: (assuming a successful bond issue) a. additional playground equipment b. regulation backstop c. improved lighting (skating) d. hard surface areas - basketball, volleyball (Assuming no bond issue) a. limited landscaping b. backstop Mr. Hagel next presented and explained the master plan for the development of Central Park. A question and answer period followed. Mayor Cohen discussed the work of the Capital Improvements Review Board and the possibility of a bond issue this year. The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
