HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968 07-17 PRMMinutes of the proceedings of the Park and Recreation Commission of the CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER in the COUNTY OF HENNEPIN and the STATE OF MINNESOTA July 17, 1968 The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Don Reichel, chairman, at 8:30 P.M. Members present were Don Reichel, Paul Bullen, Les Hagen, Frank Irvin, Ruth Lind, and Warren Olson. Also present were Eugene Hagel and Raymond Ecklund. The minutes of the regular meeting of May 22, 1968 were approved as recorded. Mr. Don Brauer of Brauer and Associates was present to discuss the proposed plan for the development of the Palmer Lake area. After discussion, a motion was made by Paul Bullen and seconded by Ruth Lind to accept and approve the plan as presented. Motion carried. The proposal to support the City Band was discussed. Motion made by Les Hagen and seconded by Paul Bullen to table the matter until the next meeting in September. Motion carried. The proposed park and recreation budget for 1969 was presented and discussed. Motion made by Les Hagen and seconded by Frank Irvin to approve the budget as presented. Motion carried. The Commission discussed the policy regarding the use of park shelter buildings. It was noted that previously the buildings had been made available only to organized civic and youth groups. Motion made by Les Hagen and seconded by Warren Olson to make the park shelter buildings available to adult neighborhood groups at no charge. Motion carried. Assistant Director Ray Ecklund commented.on the Summer Program, noting the large numbers of children participating in the activities. It was also noted that the summer staff for the Par; and Recreation Department totals over 100 persons. Director Gene Hagel reported on various park improvements including topsoiling, seeding, sodding, tree planting, and play- ground equipment installation at East and West Palmer Parks. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 P.M.
