HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967 01-25 PRMV Minutes of the proceedings of the Park and Recreation Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and the State of Minnesota January 25, 1967 The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Paul Bullen, Chairman at 7:30 P.M. Roll call: Present were Paul Bullen, Orlin Braun, Les Hagen, Frank Irvin, Ruth Lind, and Don Reichel. Also present were Gene Hagel and Ray Ecklund. Member absent was Bruce Morrow. The minutes of the previous meeting of Nofvember 30, 1966, were approved as recorded. Brief reports were presented by the Golf Course and Swimming Pool Committees. The model of the Community Parkas designed by University students, was reviewed and the concept of the Community Park as presented was agreed on by the Commission. Only minor changes in the plan • were noted. The Commission then reviewed the Brooklyn Plaza site plan as proposed for the Earle Brown Farm area. Motion made by Les Hagen and seconded by Frank Irvin to go on record as opposed to the plan because: 1. The Community Park area has been reduced too much to allow space for planned recreation facilities. 2. Access to the park from the East has been virtually cut off. 3. No buffer, such as a street, has been provided for between public and private property. 4. The proposed interchange takes too much of the property needed for the Community Park. 5. The proposed interchange in too close to the existing interchanges 6. The plan, in general, departs too drastically from the original plans and discussions regarding the community park area. The Commission further requests that it have an opportunity to discuss the matter with the City Council before final decisions are made. Motion carried. Motion made by Ruth Lind and seconded by Orlin Braun to request that the City Council direct the Capital Improvements Review Board to immediately begin to review the question of land acquisition for the Community Park. Motion carried. The Park and Recreation operating budgets for 1967 were reviewed. It was reported that the Suburban Recreation Association has allocated $940.00 to be used by the Brooklyn Center Park and Recreation Department for co-sponsoreh p of Day Camp. The Suburban Recreation Association will absorb the general liability insurance premium of $60.00 and the Senior Citizens' program costs, and will continue to offer district and area events for children through senior citizen age groups. • The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
