Park and Recreation Commission of the
Village of Brooklyn Center in the County
of Hennepin and the State of Minnesota
June 15, 1966
The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was
called to order by Paul Sullen, chairman, at 8:15 P.M.
Roll call: Present were Paul Sullen, Orlin Braun, Gerald Gilbertson,
Leslie Hagen, Francis Irvin, and Ruth Lind. Also present were
Eugene Bagel and Raymond Ecklund. Member absent was Bruce Morrow.
The minutes of the previous meeting of May 18, 1966 were approved
as recorded.
The Swimming Pool Committee reported that it is continuing to gather
information and inspect various types of pools in the area. It is
expected that the findings and conclusions of the committee will
be ready for report form in about a month.
The Director reported on the following: Shelter buildings for
Orchard Lane, West Palmer and Evergreen have been designed and
prices are being obtained for the necessary labor and materials.
Grading has been completed at both Evergreen and Lions Park and
top-soiling has begun at Lions Park.
The bid for tennis courts at Northport Park has been awarded to
Northland Constructors for the amount of $10,975.99.
Playground equipment is being ordered for Evergreen and Grandview
Parks. The Board agreed to the purchase of a Miracle Space Ship
to be erected at Grandview. Equipment for other parks will be
ordered as specifications are completed.
Blacktopping around the Bellvue and Kylawn shelters is scheduled
to be completed within the next two weeks.
It is expected that drawings and specifications for rest rooms at
Northport and Garden City Parks will begin upon receipt of a letter
of proposal from Community Planning and Design Associates.
The budget for 1967 was discussed. No other action was taken.
