Park and Recreation Commission of the
Village of Brooklyn Center in the County
of Hennepin and the State of Minnesota
May 18, 1966
The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was
called to order by Paul Sullen, Chairman, at 7:40 P.M.
Roll call: Present were Paul Sullen, Orlin Braun, Prancis Irvin,
Ruth Lind, and Bruce Morrow. Also present were Eugene Hagel,
Raymond Ecklund, and Ester Hammon. Members absent were Gerald
Gilbertson and Leslie Hagen.
The minutes of the previous meeting of April 27, 1966, were
approved as recorded.
Bruce Morrow and Committee member Ray Baumgartner gave a report
for the Ice Center Study Committee. Several installations in the
area have been visited and costs of construction and operation
have been gathered. A general discussion of ice centers and their
use followed.
A Committee from the Jaycees was present to discuss the possibility
of their taking over the development of a park. The following
points were discussed: Time limit funds available--now and future,
cost of development, availability of manpower, and requirements of
the Board for naming a park after an organization. The Jaycees
will discuss the project with their board and meet with the Park
and Recreation Commission at a future date.
Assistant Director Ray Ecklund and Program Supervisor Ester Hammen
reported on the coming Summer Recreation program, noting the new
programs being added. These include a father and sons night, tiny
tot program, two new playgrounds (Evergreen and Lions) a charm
course for teens, and a general review of all other activities.
The Director reported that acceptance of a tennis court bid is
being delayed pending the study of a relatively new tennis court
material.
After a discussion of general park development progress the meeting
was adjourned at 10:15 P.M.
