HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966 04-27 PRMMinutes of the proceedings of the Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennevin and the State of Minnesota April 27, 1966 The Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Paul Bullen, Chairman, at 7:35 P.M. Roll Call: Present were Paul Bullen, Leslie Hagen, Francis Irvin, Ruth Lind, and Bruce Morrow. Also present were Eugene Hagel and Ray Ecklund. Member absent was Gerald Gilbertson. The minutes of the previous meeting of March 16, 1966, were approved as recorded. Approximately 50 residents from the northeast area were present to discuss the proposed park in the Riverdale-Dallas Road area. The feeling of the group was strongly in favor of the park. The thought was expressed that the park should be enlarged to provide for a future hockey rink. Iri later discussion the Board agreed that it could not-justify a hockey rink in this area and recommended that the size remain as previously determined. The Junior Chhmber of Commerce has expressed' an interest in taking over the development of a park. In return they would expect it to be named for their organization. The Board agreed to invite representatives of the Jaycees to the next meeting to discuss the proposal. Committee Reports: The Swimming Pool Committee reported that it met with Mr. Chamberlain to discuss his proposal for an indoor pool. The Committee is now waiting for further details regarding costs of operation of the pool. Mr. Chamberlain has agreed to furnish this information. The Ice Center Committee requested time at the next meeting to discuss its report with the Park and Recreation Commission. The Board agreed to this request. The Golf Course Committee discussed a letter received from the Metropolitan Golf Course Operators Association. It was agreed that if the golf course proposal was pursued, the Board would request a meeting with this organization. 0 minutes, April 27, 1966 The problem of golfers in the parks was discussed. It was agreed that action should be taken to prohibit this and it was further suggested that action should be taken with regard to restricting motor bikes and snotsobiles from the parks. It was agreed to tour the parks on Saturday, May 14. Members of the Council are invited to attend. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
