VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER
RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
July 27, 1965
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission
was held at the Village Hall at 8000 P.M., Tuesday, July 27, 1965.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gerald Gilbertson.
Other members present were Les Hagen, John Leary, Bruce Morrow, and
John Wingard. Also present were Gene Bagel, Ray Ecklund, and Ester
Hammen.
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 13, 1965, were approved
as recorded.
The Assistant Director reported on the summer program, indicating
a very good response in all acitvities. Registration and
participation figures show an overall general increase.
The Director distributed copies of a preliminary study for the
construction of a Swimming Pool and Recreation Center Building in
Brooklyn Center. After discussion it was moved by John Wingard
and seconded by Les Hagen to recommend that a swimming pool,
recreation building, and arena be incorporated into the Village
Capital Improvement Program, with a number one priority for the
swimming pool. Motion carried.
The Recreation budget for 1966 was reviewed. Motion made by John
Wingard and seconded by Les Hagen to approve the budget as revised.
Motion carried.
The expansion of recreation areas was discussed. These include
proposed sites at Northeast, South of the Cemetery, West Palmer,
Lower Twin Lake, Brooklyn Center High School, Grandview Park, and
the Mississippi River.
It was agreed that there would be no meeting in August.
It was announced that the National Recreation congress is being held
in Minneapolis during the week of October 3 to 8.
The Assistant Director's salary was discussed. Motion made by Bruce
Morrow and seconded by Les Hagen that the salary of the Assistant
Director be increased from the present rate of $553.00 per month to
$610.00 per month effective August 1, 1965. Motion carried.
