RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
January 26, 1965
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission
was held at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 26, 1965.
Members present were John wingard, Gerald Gilbertson, Les Hagen,
Polly Harti.n, Frank Irvin, John Leary, and Bruce Morrow.
Motion made by Les Hagen, seconded by Gerald Gilbertson, that the
minutes of the previous meeting of October 28, 1964, be approved.
Motion carried.
The Assistant Director r9ported on activities and participation in
the Children's winter program including skating rinks, skating racer,
figure skating, hockey, baton and tap, gym classes, and creative
drama. Adult activities include Men's Exercise, three Weight Watchers
groups, Senior Citizens Club, Men's gym and four team volleyball
league, a men's hockey team, a seven team men's basketball league,
a nine team women's volleyball league, Women's Trimnastics, Bridge
Club, Ballroom Dance Class, Band, Chorus, and square dances.
Response to the Teen Activities program has ranged from disappointing
in some activities to good in others. However, interest' and
attendance is expected to increase with a change in personnel and
organization of teen councils.
The Recreation Commission and Park Board have been requested to
meet with the Charter Commission February 9.
The United Fund - Suburban Recreation Association allocation for
Brooklyn Center for 1965 is $18510.00. This money will be used for
the Day Camping and Senior Citizens programs.
Park Capital improvements for 1965 were'discussed.
An election of officers was held.
Newly elected officers for 1965 are:
Chairman: Gerald Gilbertson
Vice-Chairman: Bruce Morrow
Secretary: Polly Hartin
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
