die regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Com*mi.ssion
unas held at the Village Klall at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 28,1964.
Members present were John Wingard, Gerald Gilbertson, Polly Hartin,
Leslie Hagen and Bruce Morrow.
The minuses of the regular meeting of May 26, 1964, were approved
as recorded.
The Assistant Director reported on riew activities in the Fall Program
including Boys 'Vouch football, Children's Gym classes, Creative
Dramatics, and the Men's Touch Football League which plays weekly
under the lights at willow Lane Park.
The Teen Activities Program for Fall and winter, 1964-65 was
• distributed to Board Members. 4,000 copies of the program are
being distributed to all Junior and Senior Ligh School Students in
Brooklyn Center,,
The proposed winter Program was discussed and chancres noted as
follows:
* The Holiday Hockey Tournament will be discontinued since it is
felt that it has served its intended purpose, and the money saved
can be more useful elsewhere.
* warming Nooses will be located at Bellvue, Happy Hollow, North-ports
Kylawn, Brooklane, Garden City, Orchard Lane, Willow Lane, Grandview,
and new locations at East Palmer and Lions Park. The residents in
the vicinity of &iergreen Park are presently seeking to obtain a
shelter from the builder in the area.
* Warming houses will open at 12:00 noon on Saturdays instead of
10:00 A.M. as in previous years.
* The practice of checking boots, shoes etc. at Northport, Garden
City, and Grandview will be discontinued to allow the attendant to
spend more time supervising the rink and the building.
* An adult broomball league is being planned.
* Boys hockey teams will be registered from each park instead of at
Grandview and Willow Lane only. It is hoped that this will provide
an opportunity for a greater number of boys to participate in the
hockey program.
* Other classes such as Art Instruction and Intermediate Bridge
will be organized as interest develops.
Policies regarding the Civic Band and Civic Chorus are presently
being worked out with the executive committee of the groups. one
of the main items under discussion is the practice of charging a
membership fee to belong to the Band and Chorus. It was pointed out
that a surrey of all such civic groups revealed that only Brooklyn
Center charged a membership fee. After discussion,, a motion was
made by Gerald Gilbertson and seconded by Leslie Hagen that the
membership fee be eliminated. Motion carried.
The 1965 budget as approved was discussed.
Motion made by Gerald Gilbertson and seconded by Bruce Morrow, to
recommend that expenses be allowed the Director and Assistant
Director to attend the Annual Fall Conference of the Minnesota
Recreation and Park Association in Minneapolis, November 4 and 5.
Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
