RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
January 28, 1964
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission
was held at the Village Hall at 800 P.M., Tuesday, January 28,
1964. Members present were Les Hagen, Frank Irvin, Janet Johnson,
John Leary, Bruce Marrow, John Wingard, and new member Gerald
Gilbertson.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded.
The Director and Assistant Director reported on all activities of
the winter program including statistics as follows:
1049 persons are registered in various children and adult
activities.
The attendance at open groups runs about 7550 each week.
This includes skating rinks, skating races, hockey spectators,
teen ice nites, and adult skating niter.
Attendance at the skating rinks up to January 17 was 30,000.
Projected figures for the entire skating season will run
approximately 60,000 persons.
Motion made by Janet Johnson and seconded by John Wingard to
recommend a monthly salary increase of $25.00 for the Civic Band
Director and the Civic Chorus Director, as provided for in the
1964 Recreation Budget. Motion carried.
Motion made by Gerald Gilbertson and seconded by Janet Johnson
to recommend that expenses by allowed for the Director and
Assistant Director to attend the Great Lakes District Recreation
Conference in Milwaukee, April 1, 2, 3, 1964. Motion carried.
An election of officers was held. The new officers of the
commission are:
Chairman: John Wingard
Vice-Chairman: Gerald Gilbertson
Secretary: Janet Johnson
