RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
November 26, 1963
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission
was held at the Villa a Hall at 8:00 P.M.j Tuesday, November 26,
1963. Members preigen were Francis Irvin, Janet Johnson, Eleanor
Houser, and John Wingard.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded.
The Director and Assistant Director reported on the Fall Program
as follows:
Baton and Tap instruction classes held at six schools have 280
girls participating in thirteen different classes.
Ballet instruction classes are held at three schools with 130
girls registered.
Football had 200 boys participating at five parks during the
Saturday morning program this Fall.
Teenaqe School of Charm was cancelled due to insufficient
registrations. It has been rescheduled for early Spring.
Saaare Dancing Class for children has nearly 60 (seven squares)
boys and girls dancing every Monday evening at Garden City School.
Mens and Womens Vollevball has 150 participating at four elementary
schools.
The Bridqe Club attracts at least 32 persons for each meeting.
The Civic Chorus and Civic Band are growing slowly in membership.
Total members now are approximately 60 men and women. Concerts
have been scheduled at Brookdale for the Chorus on December 16 and
for the band on December 23.
The Senior Citizens Club has approximately 100 members.
The WOWS (Willpower or Waistline Surplus) have organized with over
40 women members.
Ballroom Dance instruction has 38 couples in two classes..
Men's Exercise class has 18 men registered. '
Trimnastics Class for women has 38 registered.
Square Dancing has 12 couples participating.
Christmas Crafts Classes had 68 women participants.
It was reported that the Winter Schedule of activities is at the
printers and will be ready for distribution the first week in December
Motion made by John Wingard and seconded by Eleanor Houser to appoir-
Leslie Hagen as Delegate to the Board of Directors of the Suburban
Recreation Association. Motion carried.
After a progress report and discussion of park developments the
meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
