HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963 04-23 RECMVILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING April 23, 1963 MINUTES The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission was held at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 23, 1963. Members present were Janet Johnson, John Leary, Bruce Morrow, and John Wingard. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded. Mr. Gordon Christian, Executive Director of the Minneapolis Association for Retarded Children and Mrs. Hastings and Mrs. Haeg representing mothers of retarded children in Brooklyn Center, were present to discuss the possibility of a recreation program for retarded children. After considerable discussion a motion was made by John Wingard and seconded by John Leary to instruct the Director to inaugurate a pilot program for retarded children in Brooklyn Center. Motion carried. A general discussion of plans for the summer program was held. The copy will go to the printers in about a week and run schedules will be distributed through the schools in May. It was announced that Assistant Director Jim Niles has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association. One of the responsibilities will be to help coordinate hockey activities for all age groups in this area. Motion made by John Leary and seconded by John Wingard to recommend that the Director and Assistant Director be allowed expenses to attend the annual spring meeting of the Minnesota Recreation Association in Owatonna, Friday, April 26. Motion carried. It was agreed to retain the present monthly meeting schedule, to keep attendance charts of all members, and to contact members who have been absent. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
