RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
July 24, 1962
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation
Commission was held at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M.,
Tuesday, July 24, 1962. Members present were Francis
Irvin, Janet Johnson, Eleanor Houser, and Bruce Morrow.
The minutes of the previous meeting of May 22, 1962,
were approved as recorded.
The Director reported on plans for the Park Dedication on
Thursday, August 2. Chairman Les Hagen will be unable to
attend and Vice-Chairman Frank Irvin will present the
official welcome for the Recreation Commission.
Motion made by Eleanor Houser and seconded by Janet
Johnson to recommend that the Director be allowed ex-
penses to attend the Z-msrican Institute of Park Executives
Conference being held in Kansas City, September 23 to 28.
Motion carried.
Assistant Director Jim Niles reported on the Teen Programs
and Dances, Teen Golf, Playgrounds, Girls Softball, Puppetry,
Trampoline, Adult Golf, and Day Campine. Sports Supervisor
Bob Roy gave a report on the Big Tee League,the Tee Shirt
League, Playground Olympics and Fitness, and Adult Softball.
Director Gene Hagel reported on the Junior Swimming Instruct-
ion, Children and adult list Classes, Archery, Baton, Creative
and Modern Dancing, i1dult Swimming Instruction, and Morse-
shoes.
It was noted in the reports that registration and partici-
pation figures again exceeded those of past years and there
are waiting lists for the Swimming and Day Camping programs.
The proposed budget for 1963 was presented and discussed.
Motion made by Janet Johnson and seconded by Bruce Morrow
to approve the budget as presented. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
