HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961 11-28 RECMVILLAGE OF BROOKLYN C=r RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING November 28, 1961 MINUTES The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission was held at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 28, 1961. Member present were Bruce Morrow, Cliff Wellman, and Eleanor Houser. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded. The Director distributed copies of the 1961-62 Winter Program Schedule and noted some of the new and expanded activities including the addition of skating rinks at Garden City School and 70th and Newton Avenues North, a new hocke# program for boys in the 8 to 10 year bracket, the Second Annual Holiday Hockey Tournament, a Bantam Hockey Tournament, Charm Clinics for girls, Adult ballroom dance instruction, Men's physical fitness class, Men's Basketball league, and another Great Books Discussion Group. Teen age dances at Earle Brown School have been discontinued by request of the Brooklyn Center High School administration. According to officials of the Osseo School District, the Osseo School Board does not favor teen age dances. It was agreed by the Recreation commission not to schedule such dances for the present, and to try and determine if there is a need and desire on the part of the parents and teen agers. Motion made by Cliff Wellman and seconded by Bruce Morrow to pay $1.50 per hour for Warming House Supervisors. Motion Carried. Motion made by Cliff Wellman and seconded by Eleanor Houser not, to allow any hockey sticks or pucks on general skating rinks. All hockey is to be restricted to designate-hockey rinks. Motion Carried. Motion made by Bruce Morrow and seconded by Eleanor Houser that the Recreation Commission make application for membership in the Suburban Recreation Association and that Mrs. Janet Johnson be named as delegate. Motion Carried. Recruitment procedures for the hiring of an Assistant Director were discussed. Duties, qualifications, etc. were agreed as follows: Af 0 • DUTIES: Assist with planning, organization, and supervision of all recreation programs for all age groups. Duties responsibilities will conform to generally accepted organization and standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from accredited College with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Leadership. STARTING SALARY: $5000. - $5500. plus car allowance. BENEFITS: Public Employees Retirement System, professional conferences, vacation and sick leave. APPLICATIONS% Must be received by January 31, 1962. Appointment to be made soon thereafter. It was agreed to assist the St. Alphonsus boy's basketball program again this year by helping to obtain the use of a gym. The Director reported that he has been appointed to serve a three year term on the National Advisory Committee on Recreation Administration for the National Recreation Association. There will be no December meeting. The next regular meeting will be held in January. The meeting was adjourned.
