HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961 06-27 RECM• • VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING June 27, 1961 MINUTES The regualr monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Commission was held at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 27, 1961. Members present were Les Hagen, Eleanor Houser, and Janet Johnson. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded. The director reported on summer program activities as follows-. Playgrounds opened on Tuesday, June 19 with a very high attendance for the week. Over 1100 children were registered. Tee Shirt baseball has 825 registered. This is 200 more than last year. The Big Tee League-starting for the first time this year has 65 registered. Children's Art Classes registered 80•-the first week. Modern and Creative Dancing have 150 registered.. Day Camping is filled with 240 and the Swimming Classes are filled except for one class which has 10 openings. Nearly 600 are registered for swimming instruction. Swimming instruction for adults and the teen age archery class were cancelled due to insufficient registrations. All other activities including girls softball, teen age dances, puppetry-dramatics, trampolining, baton, archery, horseshoes, adult softball leagues, and adult art classes are attracting large numbers of participants. The approximate number particiatir.._ after the first week of activities is 3800. Also discussed were the requests for park development at 65th and Perry, the many requests for tennis courts, the Triangle shelter building. and staffing requirements in the Recreation Department. The meeting was adjourned.
