January 24, 1961. kembers present were Les Haden, Bruce Morrow, Janet Johnson, and John ' T Ungard. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded. The director reported on the 19inter program as follows: Skatino :link attendance has exceeded thot of previous years. It is e timated that the number of skaters has increased three times over since 195'x. Adult Skatina Nites are attracting good crowds at Northport and `illow Lane rinks. It is expected that it will increase at the Triangle after amore confortable and attractive building is constructed. Ficure Skatinc Classes have 100 girls regizored et the four locations uh :c the classes are held. Some members of the classes till participate in the Suburban ecreation Association Ice Follies to be held at the Ice ;enter in Golden Vnlley on February 19. Hockey hav 100 boys registered in 3 Bantam teams and 6 '-`ee ':fee teems. The schedule is presently being played. The M nneanolis W nners Clinic wes succe.sful and attracted opproximately 100 spectators plus the hockey teams. Four killers players including :den Yackel taught and demonstrated techniques to the boys attending. The First Annual Holjdav Hockey Tourney was a :success with North, Henry, Osseo, and Fridley High School teams participating. Henry won the trophy. An estimated 500 people attended the two-day tournament. speed Skatino Races were held to select the Brooklyn Center winners who vAill compete in the suburban Skate Jerby at Edina this Saturday, January 25. Baton-Tan-Ballet classes have 100 girls registered at Northport, Eo rle Brown, and Garden City schools where it is held. Basketball for junior and senior high boys has 120 boys registered at Earle Brown and `.'Dillow Lane schools. Teen Dances are attracting 200 to 250 at the Junior High dance: while the Senior High dances have an attendance of from 75 to 100. The dance instruction classes did not receive the attendance that was expected. Adult Volleyball has approximately 120 siomen in 9 teams presently playing a schedule at the four schools. Uens gym has approximately 70 participating at three schools. Senior Cltzens has a membership of 50 and is meeting regularly at the old Viilage Hail. This is the highest the membership has been and attendance at club activities is very good. Great Books Discpssion Grouo bas 10 members signed already for the group to begin next Fall. Three of the members have volunteered as discussion leaders and will receive a tuition-free eight-week training course offered by the Great Books Foundation at the net-a-Linneapolis library. The course will begin in Larch. Commy,jr Choru+ has received some response but it is felt that the group gill have greater chnnees of success if started in the Fall. The facilities and resources of the Brooklyn Center High school will be available and the summer "let-down" will be avoided. The possibilities of carrying on through the seasons without a financial shortage will also be greater. A survey of rates paid swarming house attendants was presented showing that Brooklyn Center is below all other communities. It was agreed that an adjustment should be made but not until next season when it will be determined to ghat extent. It was announced that the S.R.A. allotment has been increased from $12500 to $1500 for 1961, and that Mrs. Houser was elected secretary of the Suburban Recreation Association. The meeting was adjourned.
