RECREATION COMMISSION-HEFTING

The regular meeting of the BrocklyA Center Recreation Comrd.asion was held
at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M., Thursday, January 28, 1960. Members
present were Bruce Morrow, Ices Hagen, Eleanor Houser and Prank Irvin.
The minutes of the. previous resting won approved as recorded.
Winter activities were reported as followse
Skating Rinks., although later getting started due to the weather, are
attracting larger numbers of skaters than last year. Some rinks were enlarged
this year to accommodate the expected increase. and warming houses are being
operated at seven locations.
Adult Skating on Saturday nights at Northport is increasing gradually.
Indications are that this should be continued again next year.
Boys Hockey is down so*eehat over last year due to the late start. However,
e program is well under way with over fifty boys and four teats participating.
e Skating_ instruction classes are held regularly at Northport. The
qua ty of instruction Is better than in the pest but registration is down with
twelve boys and girls registered.
The Suburban Speed Skating Derby will be held at Northport, Saturday,
January 30t67 ApproximateV 750 entries frcmrt 25 different coamnmitirs are
expected.
Yap and Baton instruction classes are baing held at Northport,, Earle brown
ana Garden City School each week.' Seventy-five girls are registered.
Basketball coaching, instruction, and Ain "ntals are held three times each
week at Earle Brown. School. One but fired and fifty bogs from the 6th through
l2th grades are participating.
`Peen-.Af.6 Dances on Friday nights qLt EFsrle ftwwn School are as popular as ever.
Attendance at the Junior High dances averages 275 while the Senior High dances
attract about 100.
Adult 9olle ball for men hand women is held. at Willow LLane, Oarden City,
Northpart,"~ and-Earle Brown Sohogl each week. Aamost 200 men; .and win are

Approximately 25 persons have joined the group.
Notion rude by Les Hagen and seconded by keanar Houser to approve the
0-00 membership in the National hecreation Association. Motion cart ied.
It was annaunced that Gene Hagen and Joe Sienko will be attending the Park
and Recreation. Institute at the University of Minnesota, February 11 and 12.
Gene Hagel is on the panel which will discuss the purpose., type, safety.,
durability,, color, and spacing of playground equipment*
The Great Nees District Recreation Conference will be held in St. Paul
April 4., 5, 6 & 7. Gene Hagel has been asked to serve as coordinator of a
session on "Planning the Capital improvement Program."
It was announced thdt 41250 has been allotted to Brooklyn Center from
Corny ity Chest funds, This money will be spent for teen age, day camping,
and senior citizens programs.
Proposed 1W-Outs for the development of the Triangle Caere presented and
discussed.
The annual election of officers was held. New officers elected for the
year 1960 are:
President M Leslie Hager
Vice -eresident ` Frank Irvin
Secretary - Eleanor Houser
The meeting was adjourned.
