MINUTES
The regular monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation Qommission
was held at the Village Ball at $:00 P.M., Thursday, October 29, 1959. mbers
present were Bruce Morrow and Eleanor Houser.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as .recorded.
The Superintendent reported on Fall activities as follows: The boys'
football program was contirm6d for six weeks.with approximately 80 boys
participating. Teen Age Dances got under way in October with record crowds
attending. Tap and baton instruction classes are being held at Earle Brown,
Northport, and Willow Lane Schools. Adult volleyball is being held one right a
week each for men and women at the three schools. It is expected to begin at
Gardeh. City School as soon as the school provides volleyball standards. Interest
has increased over last year. The Senior Citizens Club is setting up its Fall
and Winter program. Regular meetings will be field at the Village Mall at least
once a month beginning in November.
Skating rink operations were discussed. Rinks will be located at the
following places:
55th and Aldrich
Earle Brown School
50th and, Abbott
Northport Park
Garden City Park
61st and Kyle No.
Willow Lane Park
65th and Perry
72nd and Riverdale
Hockey rinks will .be located at Earle Brown School and Willow Lane Park.
All rinks will be lighted and all but two rinks will have warming houses and
supervision. Hours of operation were agreed upon as follows:
Weexdays : 3:30 - 5 , 6 9, P.M.
Saturdays 10 - 12 , 1 v 5, 6 w 9, P.S.
Sundays & Vacation days 1-5 , 6 9 P.M.
The hockey and figure Skating programs are being set up at present. It
is hoped to expand both of these activities.
The Annual Suburban Spored Skating Derbq will be held in Brooklyn Center
at Northport Park' Saturday, January 30, 1960. Twenty different communities
will be represented.
It was agreed that one night a week be set aside at one of the rinks as
"Waltz Night" for adults only.
It was announced that the Perk Board has voted to operate the concessions
in the warming houses.
It was agreed that a subscription to Recreation Magazine be obtained for
each member of the Recreation Commission.
The meeting was adjourned.
