The regular monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Center Recreation COMM.-lasion
was held at the Village Half., 8:00 .0.m.3, Wednesday, .May 27, 1959. Members
present were Bruce MDrrow, Francis Irvin, Cliff Wellman, and John Winga.rd.
Minates of the previous meeting were approved as recorded.
They superintendent reported on the summer recreation program stating that
registrations for swimming and day camping alone had doubled that of last
year. Interest In othesr activities and in the program -In general had increased.
Many adults have already registj>red for the new adult activities which include
softball., golf, and archery instruction.
Nbtion made by Francis Irvin and seconded by John Wingard recommending that
the Village Council allow the Park and. Recreation Director to attend thou
National Recreation Congress in Chicago= September 28 to October 2. Irvin,
Wingar• and Mbrrow voted yes, Wellman voted no. motion carried.
Nbtion made by John Wingard and seconded by Francis Irvin that the Park and
Recreation Director give periodic oral reports of park and recreation progress
to the Village Council. Motion carried.
The Superintendent reported the following:
A Senior Citizens Party was sponsored by the .ions Club on ]Kay lr and was
held at Merle Brown fchool. The Lions Club provided a,11 food said refreshments
plus several prizes and entertainment.
A Northport Park clearing project was held at the park on Saturday, %y 16.
Mambers'of the Lions Club, J.C.;s, Park-Department, and Mayor Super helped
clear trees and underbrush to help establish the Village's first plenic area.
A similar project is being planned for this f'4ll.
The-Lions Club has donated 404.30 to be used to purchase benches for the parks..
A total of twenty-six benches will be purchased azd will be placed in Garden City,
Northport and Rioe Parks.
The meeting was adjourned.
