RECREATION C0124ISSION MEETING
February 25, 1959.
MINUTES
The regular monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Center R.earea-
tion Commission was held at the Y112$9e Hall, SsOD P.M.•, Wed-
nesday, February 25, 1959. Members present were Bruce Morrow,
]yes Es,en, Frank Irvin, Clifford Wellman, and John Wingard.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as recorded.
Items were discussed and reports given as followas
The Brooklyn Center W6mense` volleyball League Play-offs
were held at Willow Lane School, Tuesday evening, February
24, 1959. The four top teams in the league participated,
including; one team from Northport, two from Willow Lane,
and one from Earle Brown. Enthusiasm is high and many
requests were received to continue this activity again
next years
Plans for the Summer Program were discussed briefly. It
was agreed to add golf instruction to the.program and to
continue with swimming instructions if the use of a pool
can be obtained on the same basis as last year. Reguests
have been received from bath man and women for adult
softball. It is hoped that this can be started this year,
but the activity will be limited due to the small number
of diamonds available.
Soft drink sales at the warming houses grossed 0847.00
and netted approximately $400.00. The Council has approved
the pUrahase of a Public Address System and Audits Sailer
from these funds.
G1if VVellma reported that the Lions Club is interested
in promoting the Senior Cititens Club. Plans will soon
be developed whereby the Lions will sponsor a special
party for the group,
The Recreation Commission budget showed a gross income of
$1,790.75 from fees and charges for the year 1958. The
net balance as of December 31 was $5369146,
The Recreation Camzission Progress Report was distributed
to all mambers present.
