June 6, 1960
The Park Board met in regular session and was called to order by Paul Bullen,
chairman, at ?1•3o P.M.
Roll Call: Paul Bullen and Dallas Lawrence were present, Francis Irvin was
absent.
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 2, 1960, were approved as recorded.
Mr. Meighan of Janssen Realty was present to discuss the purchase of Outlot 1,
Northport Park Addition. It was agreed to investigate the possible value of
the property before making a decision.
Member Dallas Lawrence introduced the following resolution and moved its
adoption:
RESOLUTION AUTHCRIZING PURCHASE
OF CERTAIN LAND FOR PARK PURPOSES
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Park Board of the Village of Brooklyn
Center, Minnesota, as follows:
1. It is hereby determined that the acquisition of
land hereafter described for park purposes is.
necessary and in the public interest.
2. The officers of the Park Board are hereby authorized
and directed to enter into the purchase of such land,
osuch agreement to include the following:
A. Legal Description: That part of Trot 63,
Auditor's Subdivision No. 218, bounded on
the Korthwest by Highway 100, o4i the East
by Humboldt Avenue North, and on the South
by 59th Avenue North, Section 2, Township
118, Range 21, Hennepin County, Minnesota.

B. Owner: University of Minnesota
Co Price: Thirty thousand dollars 030,000.00)
D. Date of closing: On or about July 1, 1960
E. Date of possession: On or about July 1, 1960
F. Said agreement shall provide that the owner will
provide a warranty deed to said property.
3. The officers of the Park Board are hereby authorized
and directed to complete said purchase according to
the terms of said agreement.
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Paul Bullen, and upon
:rote being taken thereon the following voted id favor thereof: Paul Bullen,
and Dallas Lawrence; and the following voted against the same: None;
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
A letter from the Union, requesting a salary adjustment for Harold Rossow,
was presented. Motion made by Dallas Lawrence and seconded by Paul Bullen
to increase the hourly rate of Harold Rossow from X2.17 to 4.2.55 per hour
effective June 1, 1960. Motion carried.
Mr. Corwin, park consultant, was present and gave a report on the concrete
tests which included the Impact Hammer testa %ad ccrse taken from the deck
at the Northport Pool.
Motion made by Dallas Lawrence and seconded by Paul Bullen to approve
payment to Farnworth Construction Company pending repair of the pool deck
at Northport Park and the furnace room door at Garden City Park. Motion
carried.
Motion made by Dallas Lawrence and seconded by Paul Bullen to approve the
written agreement with Osseo School District regarding maintenance at
Willow Lane School-Park, and recommending its signature by the Village
Council. Motion carried.
The agreements with Little League, Inc. and Babe Ruth, Inc. were approved
and signed.
The Superintendent reported the following:
The contribution of x2500.00 from the Osseo School District for the ~;~ment
of Willow Lane School-Park will be received in the near future.
The Garden Clubs in Brooklyn Center have been most anxious to contribute to
the Park development and beautification program. The consolidated Garden
Clubs have started a flower garden in Northport Park consisting of 300 petunia
plants and 3 rugosa rose bushes. The Northport Garden Club has planted a
Sunburst locust tree in the park. Other clubs have also indicated their
desires to contribute.
Fill dirt has been given by Northport School to repair the settling in
Northport Park. This work will be started as soon as the equipment is
available.
The picnic tables and grills are expected to be set out in Northport Park
this week.
The fence is being erected in Southeast Park and is expected to be completed
in about a week.
A summer maintenance man has been employed and will begin work Wednesday,
June 8th.
Concession profit from soft drink machines in the shelter buildings was
20.28.
